Seek Him

Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that He may have compassion on him, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.” ~ Isaiah 55:6-7

We often believe that God will forever show us grace. No matter what we do. No matter what we say, God will always be there, but is that true? Will God always be there? Isaiah tells us to seek the LORD while He may be found. We expect God to always be there, just waiting for us to give Him a little of our attention. But God says to seek Him while He can be found. Today is the day of salvation; tomorrow is promised to no man. Seek the LORD before it’s too late. Before time runs out and you can no longer find Him. Wake from your Spiritual Slumber.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Seek Him.

Be Like Flowing Water

“Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.” ~ Proverbs 25:26

Often times, we as Christians will give in to the pressures of the world and allow sin to be prominent in our nation. When we do that, we become like a muddy spring or a polluted fountain. In other words, we are Spiritually Asleep. We stop working the way the Holy Spirit recreated us to. When we fall spiritually asleep our soul becomes at risk for spiritual death.

We begin to make excuses for sin because we don’t want to offend anyone or “force our faith on others.” We want to be liked by all, but Jesus told us something fundamental, “if you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.” We are not of the world, so why do we destroy our righteousness to become accepted by the world? Is it really worth it to become like stagnant water before the LORD?

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Be Like Running Water.

Be A Berean

11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.” ~ Acts 17:11

As a Church, we’ve lost our desire to study the Bible. We’ve become content with not knowing Scripture. It’s become okay not to know if something is in the Bible or not. If something is a sin or not. How to get saved? Can you really lose your Salvation? Do you need to be baptized?

We’ve gotten rid of the need to actually know God and His Word. We’re satisfied just knowing that God is God, and that’s it. We don’t search for anything else. We can no longer defend our own beliefs. We don’t check to see if what the Preacher is preaching is accurate. We’re too busy for that, but we’ll find time to read about our favorite celebrities. Watch our favorite movies and T.V. shows. Hang out with our friends.

By no means are any of these things wrong by themselves, but when it comes to placing them above God and the things of God, that’s when it becomes an idol. That’s when it becomes a sin. That’s why the author of the book of Acts was bigging up the Bereans. They were hungry for the Word of God. They desired to know the truth. They were awake and growing, but we’ve fallen asleep. No one grows during a Spiritual Sleep; instead, they begin to die. Spiritual Slumber leads to Spiritual Death. And the worst part is, you won’t even know you’re dying. You won’t be able to stop it unless you wake up. Unless you build a true relationship with Jesus. The only way to do that is to read and study your Bible, worship, pray, go to Church, and follow in His footsteps.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Be A Berean.

Take Your Head Out Of The Sand

For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief.

For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.” ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:2-8

No matter where you go in the world our biggest enemy is apathy. We no longer care what the Bible says, whether it’s the creation of the world, the end times, or even just what’s right and what’s wrong. We don’t know and we don’t care. No one wants to talk about it. No one wants to hear about it. All we want to do is put our head in the sand as if that will protect us from whatever is here or whatever is coming. We’d rather watch mindless television than read our Bible. We’d rather live in a bubble than actually learn what’s going on with the world. Why? Why don’t we want to face what’s right in front of us?

We’ve gotten to a point where we no longer want to even define sin because that could be offensive to those who live in sin. We have become apathetic to the things of God, but to the world, we give our full attention and time. Whether we like it or not, sin is crouching at our door, and it desires to overcome us and devour us, and if we’re not careful, it will do just that. If we don’t pay attention to what’s going on in the world, we will be devoured. If we don’t pay attention to how the Bible tells us to live, we will be devoured. We have to care whether the Bible says it’s right or wrong, and we have to care what the Bible says will happen in the future. Because with apathy, we have no chance of spiritual survival.

Keeping your head in the sand won’t keep you safe, it won’t protect you, and it won’t make it okay. We have to make a choice to stand firm. Don’t be deceived by the world, but look to God and He will open your eyes. He will remove all the sand from your eyes that you have accumulated over the years. He will make you aware, and when He does, He will give you His peace, so that it will not overcome you.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Take Your Head Out Of The Sand.

Hide His Word

11 I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.” ~ Proverbs 119:11

Today we live in a world that is run by sin. We see it at every turn. In every show or movie. Every book. Every news story. Sin has become the norm. We no longer read our Bibles. We don’t even know what our Bible says, so how could we ever expect to live without sin. Is that even possible? I believe it is. Jesus believed it is. His disciples believed it was. The first Church believed it was. It’s only this generation of the Church that has a different belief. A new belief that says sin is normal. Sin is impossible to overcome because we were born with sin. And that sin, no matter what it is, is who we are.

We are not our sin. We are not what the world says we are. The only one that defines us is our Creator. Why? Because He created us. He designed us by hand. God formed us in our mother’s womb and gave us all our features. He gave us our skills and interests. He gave us a perfect plan for our lives, but we don’t always follow that plan. We ignore the fact that God even knows best. Or even cares what we do with our own bodies because we have stopped reading our Bible, and in turn, we have stopped learning right and wrong. We’ve blurred the lines and created grey areas when God created right and wrong in black and white so we wouldn’t be confused or deceived.

I invite you to open your bible, don’t just take my word for it, don’t just take someone else’s word for it, search the scriptures for yourself and learn what is right and what is wrong. Because at the end of the day, it’s not me who will stand before God for you, it’s not your pastor; it’s not your best friend, it’s not your favorite celebrity, it’s you. One day we will each stand before God and give an account of our lives. Don’t be one of those who will be afraid, but be one who will be rejoicing, for we will have peace and joy forever. Make a choice today for yourself. Where is God’s word? On your night table or in your heart? Wake up from your spiritual slumber.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Hide His Word.

Awaken Your Sleeping Spirit

“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” ~ 2 Peter 1:3

Could it be that the reason some people feel so ill-equipped for life and find godliness an unachievable feat is because of the lack of knowledge? The lack of knowledge of God? And could the lack of knowledge of God stem from the fact that so little Bible study or Bible reading is factored into our daily life?

Just maybe all we really need to do is, to be honest with ourselves and evaluate the amount of time we spend in the Word compared to…say watching T.V. Just maybe it’s time to get back to the basics and dust that old Bible off and open it up and begin reading (Just maybe). Awaken that sleeping spirit inside of you.

Heavenly Father open our eyes to see and our ears to hear, and give us the desire to seek Your face. Guide our thoughts and direct our steps in Jesus name I pray, amen.

Plant

The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.” ~ Proverbs 13:4

We, as a Church, tend to have a problem with those who thrive spiritually. Signs and Wonders follow them. Prosperity wherever they go. The sick are healed. The Spirit flows. We see these things, and we get upset. Why? Why do we feel some type of way when someone else is Spiritually rich? Is it because we are Spiritually poor?

How often to do we pray? How often do we seek after God? Is He the first thing on our mind and the last? Do we spend time with Him during the day? Do we read our Bible? We want to have such a strong spiritual connection with God, but we don’t want to for it. We want God to do all of the work, and we simply accept the benefits. A harvest with labor doesn’t exist. No matter how badly we want it to, it will never happen. We have to plant our own seeds. We have to water them, protect them, tend to them, and in due time the harvest will be ready. But a harvest will not come out of thin air.

If you don’t see a harvest, ask yourself these questions: Do I pray every day? Do I spend time with God every day? How much time do I spend with God? Do I take the time to read my Bible? How much time do I sit in the presence of God and wait to hear His voice? How often do I worship God? Do I only ask God for things, or do I give Him the thanks, praise, and honor He deserves?

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Plant.

Rule Over It

12 When you work the ground, it shall no longer yield to you its strength. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth.” 13 Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is greater than I can bear. 14 Behold, you have driven me today away from the ground, and from your face, I shall be hidden. I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.” 15 Then the Lord said to him, “Not so! If anyone kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” And the Lord put a mark on Cain, lest any who found him should attack him. 16 Then Cain went away from the presence of the Lord and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden. ~ Genesis 4:12-16

Isn’t it interesting that even though Cain killed his own brother, his twin, God refused to allow anyone to kill him? God removed Cain from His presence and cursed him to be a wanderer and a fugitive, but yet took the time to mark his forehead so that no one would be able to kill him.

Isn’t that like God is with us today? We sin, we leave his presence, but we are protected from those who would murder us. And if someone kills us, vengeance would be taken on them sevenfold. But it’s not just physical death that that’s for, it’s for spiritual death.

When we cause someone to sin, to leave the presence of God, to blatantly disobey the bible so they can live whatever life they want, we are killing them. Spiritual death. The worst kind of death, because very few return from spiritual death. The majority of mankind die from this. But yet if someone leads another astray, they will have that person’s blood on their hands. Just like if anyone killed Cain vengeance would be sevenfold on them, same here, you would become responsible for the blood of those whom you have deceived, and vengeance would be taken upon you.

So, what’s the point? Don’t let another lead you astray, and don’t lead another astray. Hold fast to God’s words in Genesis 4:7, “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Rule Over It.

Wake Up

“Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” ~ Matthew 26:41

How many hours do we spend in prayer a day and how many hours do we spend a day doing things that weaken our spirit man? I’m not saying we need to spend every waking moment in prayer and do absolutely nothing else, but I do believe we (the church) should spend more time in prayer. Just as these disciples were asleep and not keeping watch, so is the church. The Church is in the mess we’re in today, not because of Trump. Not because of the different world leaders. Not because of the broken government system. Not because of the ACLU. Not because of the amount of sin in the world, it’s because of the Church.

The Church is the only thing in the Church’s way. We are the only thing in our way. How many churches fast as a church family once a year or more? How many churches are worshiping and praying for the anointing of the Holy Spirit? Jesus said we would do better things than even He did, so why don’t we see it?

Why don’t we even see what He did being done? Why aren’t we using those Spiritual gifts that are set right in front of us and all we have to do is open them? Why don’t we? Why don’t we take those gifts that have been given to us? Because we, the church, are asleep. And when one of us sleeps we can’t function right, how do we know this? Because we are called the body of Christ, if the body is built up of different members, then if one, just one member goes rogue the entire body is affected by this one member. We can’t properly and effectively work without being in perfect unison.

So, we (each and every part of the body) needs to stay awake, we need to be on watch, and we need to pray. We need to do as Jesus did and wake up those who are in spiritual slumber. We need to be on high alert because we have been asleep for so long that we have forgotten we are in a war zone. No matter where we go, no matter who we are, no matter our name, no matter our ethnicity, no matter the color of our skin, we are all in war because it is up to us to spread the news. It is up to us plant the seeds. It is up to us to preach the gospel. It is up to us to intercede for the sinner. But if we’re asleep how can we do this and defend every attack the enemy throws our way?

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Awaken.

Time To Jump

But the Lord hurled a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea so that the ship threatened to break up. Then the mariners were afraid, and each cried out to his god. And they hurled the cargo that was in the ship into the sea to lighten it for them. But Jonah had gone down into the inner part of the ship and had lain down and was fast asleep. So the captain came and said to him, ‘What do you mean, you sleeper? Arise, call out to your god! Perhaps the god will give a thought to us, that we may not perish.’” ~ Jonah 1:4-6 (ESV)

Jonah was not concerned about the stormy weather because he had fallen so far astray. He was unaware of his surroundings to the point that the storm above did not wake him. He felt so comfortable and so assured that he had outrun God that he caused himself to become spiritually asleep.

At some point in time, we have all experienced spiritual slumber, and the worst part is, just like Jonah, we don’t even realize it. God tells us to do something, and we decide to run instead. We decide to push Him away, slowly becoming more and more numb to Holy Spirit’s pull. You just keep getting farther and farther away from God that not even a storm will wake you up. Instead, it takes someone who is awake to wake you up.

Sometimes it takes someone’s forceful nudge to show you that you’re on a sinking ship in the middle of a storm and will drown unless you wake up. Unless you do something about it. Unless you repent. And if you don’t take heed to their warning, you will be awakened. But when you are awakened, it’ll be too late. Listen to your wakeup call and jump out of the sinking ship. Repent. Turn away from your sins. Get rid of that tv show or movie or song that is numbing your senses. That person that has come between you and God. That fantasy that blinds you from reality.

Peace. Love. Go forth and JUMP.
