Lead Me

11 I will teach you wisdom’s ways and lead you in straight paths. 12 When you walk, you won’t be held back; when you run, you won’t stumble. 13 Take hold of my instructions; don’t let them go. Guard them, for they are the key to life. ~ Proverbs 4:11–13

Fathers, it’s our job to teach our children wisdom and to lead our family in straight paths. Sanctus Real has a song called, Lead Me. In the song, his wife is asking him to lead her with strong hands and to stand up when she can’t. Then it’s the children’s turn to ask for leadership and direction. Then it is the father’s turn to ask for strength and wisdom from our Heavenly Father in order to lead them. He says, “Father, lead me cause I can’t do this alone.”

As fathers, we have to come to the realization that we cannot do this without our Heavenly Father. It is by His strength. It is by His might. It is by His wisdom that we lead and guide our families.

Our Heavenly Father, take us by the hand. Guide us and teach us how to lead our families so that they may walk in the ways of righteousness and not be held back. Help us lead and guide them that they may run and not stumble. May they take hold of our good instructions and not let go of them. May they guard our Heavenly Father’s instructions, for they are the key to life. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Love Our Compassionate Father

13 As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. ~ Psalms 103:13 ESV

So many of us have a misunderstanding of what it means to fear God. The fear of the LORD isn’t about being afraid He’ll smite you down as punishment for wrongdoing. It’s about fearing Him as you would fear your earthly father. I get that many still can’t understand because they had poor earthly fathers, so let me try to paint a picture of our Heavenly Father.

God the Father loves us so much that when we betrayed Him and chose death over Him, He did everything in His power to save us. Instead of only blessing those who love Him, He blesses all people with good gifts from above. In fact, even when we push Him away and run after destruction, He seeks us out and calls us back to Him. See, fearing the LORD isn’t about being so afraid to mess up that you stop living your life, God the Father isn’t abusive. He gently corrects and guides us back onto the path of righteousness when we fall astray. The fear of the LORD is truly about loving Him, for He is a good good Father.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Love Our Compassionate Father.

Lead Them Into Blessings

The righteous [man] who walks in his integrity—blessed are his children after him! ~ Proverbs 20:7

Fathers pave the way for their children. Their actions and decisions affect their children. Abraham believed God and followed Him with all of His heart, and generation after generation after generation, his descendants are still being blessed because of this. God says He blesses to the 1000th generation of those who love Him. Imagine that just loving God would bring blessings upon not only your children and grandchildren but 1000 generations.

Your life isn’t your own. You not only affect the lives of those around you, especially your children, but you pave their way. What they see you do, they do. How they hear you speak, they will speak. You are the leader of your family, so don’t allow anything of this world to take away from your children and your children’s children. Love the LORD, seek Him, walk in His ways, and teach your children to do the same.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Lead Them Into Blessings.

Guide Your Children

13 And I declare to him that I am about to punish his house forever, for the iniquity that he knew, because his sons were blaspheming God, and he did not restrain them. ~ 1 Samuel 3:13ESV

Eli didn’t reprimand nor guide his two sons in any way. He didn’t raise them to fear God nor to love righteousness. Because of this, he brought punishment on himself and his entire household. This is like us today.

We say that our children are adults who can make their own decisions and parents have no control over them, but we should never turn a blind eye and refrain from addressing and correcting them. Children have to be guided so that they learn right from wrong. This is why we teach children not to touch the stove or not to put their finger in the light socket.

Children need to be taught right from wrong by their parents so that when they are older, they will do what is right. Even though our culture continuously changes, the fact that children need to be guided and taught right from wrong doesn’t change. It’s very important to correct your children when you know they are doing wrong against God, lest you and your children one day have to face the wrath of God.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Guide Your Children.

Look Passed Outward Appearances

24 Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.” ~ John 20:24-25

Outward appearance means little. Thomas looked so much like Jesus that he was called, ‘the twin.’ In fact, even though Jesus taught in the synagogues and in the streets and was a well-known rabbi when He was arrested at night, they waited for Judas to give the sign of who Jesus was before they arrested Him. We can only assume that this was because it was so dark at night that they couldn’t easily tell Jesus and Thomas apart. Yet, Thomas was the disciple who struggled with the resurrection of Jesus the most.

So, many of us look at the outer appearance of a Christian. They may have the appearance of Godliness, but inside they’re struggling. Inside they may be full of doubt because of a loss they experienced or a failure that they just endured. It’s so easy to look simply at the outward appearance of someone and miss out completely on the spirit inside that person.

So, when we look for a teacher or a leader, we can’t just look at someone based on their outward appearance, whether they look the way we believe a Christians should look or not. We have to look with the eyes of God and search the heart of men and women so that we won’t be led astray by a false outward Godly appearance.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Look Passed Outward Appearances.

Receive Your New Heart

“A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell along the path and was trampled underfoot, and the birds of the air devoured it. And some fell on the rock, and as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up with it and choked it. And some fell into good soil and grew and yielded a hundredfold.” As He said these things, He called out, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” And when His disciples asked Him what this parable meant, 10 He said, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God, but for others they are in parables, so that ‘seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.’ 11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13 And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy. But these have no root; they believe for a while, and in time of testing fall away. 14 And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature. 15 As for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patience.” Luke 8:5-15

Jesus tells the parable of a sower that threw out His seed onto four different types of land. Three out of the four of the different kinds of land that the seed fell on failed to survive and thrive. This parable was Jesus’ way of explaining what kinds of people would be able to withstand the temptations and trials of the world.

If we look at the reason each fell to the schemes of Satan, we can see it’s because of a heart issue. Our desires are usually on the world and the things of this world instead of on the things of God. For instance, most of us find the commands of Jesus to be restrictive instead of freeing. We find it taxing to pray, worship, and read our Bible. In fact, the majority of us don’t fast at all.

We want to love God, but our desires and our heart are on the things of this world. So, how do we fix this? We beat our flesh into submission by daily prayer, worship, and reading our Bible. We starve our flesh through fasting as we seek the face of God. In doing so, God will strengthen our spirit and give us a new heart that desires Him and the things of Him.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Receive Your New Heart.

Seek God to Leave a Legacy

1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, “Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel. ~ Joshua 1:1-2

Even though Moses was dead and Joshua was now going to lead Israel in his place, the LORD didn’t forget Moses. Moses had left a legacy. Joshua was described as Moses’ assistant even though Moses was gone and Joshua was now leading.

Moses’ legacy was a great example of the life we should try to live. Moses sought the face of God continuously. No matter how much he had been shown, Moses remained hungry for God. He was never satisfied with the relationship he had with God. He always sought more.

So, He built a legacy for himself just by seeking the face of God and following His perfect and Holy will. This is how we are to live our lives, seeking the face of God and following His plan.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Seek God to Leave a Legacy.

Stop Pouring Gasoline

15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. ~ Ephesians 4:15-16

In today’s world, it’s difficult to show love, especially to those who seem to only spew hatred and evil, but according to Paul, the greatest apostle who ever lived, we are correct and build each other up in love. As Christ was hanging on the cross and the people were mocking Him, He still cried out for God to forgive them because they didn’t know what they were doing. This is how we are supposed to be.

We are supposed to preach, teach, correct, and discipline in love so that we might build up the body of Christ and show the love of God to as many as we can. In doing this, we plant the seed of love within unbelievers and water the tree of love in believers. If we don’t walk in love, we are essentially trying to put out a fire by pouring gasoline on it. So, let the Holy Spirit fill you and mold you so that you might walk in love.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Stop Pouring Gasoline.

Heal the Land

33 You shall not pollute the land in which you live, for blood pollutes the land, and no atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed in it, except by the blood of the one who shed it. ~ Numbers 35:33

Today, there is much bloodshed in our nation and around the world. In the days before Jesus, it was an eye for an eye and bloodshed for bloodshed, but we no longer live under this law, so how do we receive justice and cleanse the land? Paul writes that when we are saved, we are spiritually crucified with Christ, so what does that mean for us? We are to spread the love of God with as many people as possible with the hope and faith that the seeds we planted will be watered and harvested, for it’s up to us, the Church, to win souls for Christ and in doing so, heal the land.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Heal the Land.

Try To Be The Salt of the Earth

13 You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. ~ Matthew 5:13-16

As Christians, we are called to be the salt of the earth, but what does that mean? Well, some people say that salt was so important in ancient times that it actually enabled society to expand; thus, salt came to actually represent great power and value. We are to be that kind of salt that is influential, powerful, and valuable.

We’re influential because our message changes lives, restores relationships, and gives hope to a hopeless world.

We are powerful because we are connected to the ultimate power, Jesus. He said, All authority in heaven and on earth is given onto Him, and He gives us access to that power and authority.

We are valuable because Jesus, God the Son, Himself, came and died to pay the price for us. So yes, we are valuable, if only to God, but who better to be valuable to?

We are more than just flesh and blood, we are the Temple of God Himself, and we each have a God-given call on our lives to be the salt of the world.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Try To Be The Salt of the Earth.
