Rest In Assurance

And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. ~ 1 John 5:11-15ESV

I was talking the other day to a friend about salvation, and she was explaining that she doesn’t really like to say that she knows without a shadow of a doubt that she’s saved. That she knows where she’s going when she dies because she doesn’t want to be prideful or arrogant. This is a common obstacle in the Church today, we have a false understanding of both pride and humility. See, it isn’t humility telling us that it’s prideful or arrogant to know that you are saved. That’s the enemy creeping in with false humility. With false piety, so that you can never have confidence in your faith.

See, other religions live in doubt. They live without assurance of where they go when they die, we don’t. Paul even goes as far as to say we have confidence and assurance in where our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ go when they die. As Christians, we aren’t like the world, we have assurance in Christ Jesus. In His promise. In His seal that dwells in you and is sealing you for the return of the LORD (Ephesians 4:30). This isn’t arrogance or pride. This is understanding the difference between our religion and other religions. Where they have doubt and unsurety, we have assurance and confidence. We have peace because of the great love of our God.

Pave. Love. Go Forth and Rest In Assurance.
