He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. ~ Psalms 91:1ESV
When tragedy strikes, people who grew up with an idea or knowledge of God, will always call on Him during that time. Here’s the thing, it becomes the only time we call on Him and so because of that we begin to bargain with Him. That scene from Madea’s Big Happy Family when Byron (Bow Wow’s character) says he prayed the whole way to the hospital and promises God that he’ll do right if God will just save his mother. Meanwhile the entire movie he has been sleeping with his girlfriend without a care in the world for God. This has become normal in Christianity today. Matter-a-fact, this has become modern-day Christianity founded upon one false belief: my only responsibility is to believe in God, and I will enter heaven.
You can search all of Scripture, but you will never find that belief anywhere in there. It’s not Biblical. Jesus said to remain in Him and He would remain in you. Bear fruit or you’ll be cut off and thrown into the fire. Store up treasures in heaven, for where your treasure is that is where your heart will be. Keep your lamp burning, or you’ll miss the marriage supper. Never does He say that belief is all that is required of you. Faith gets you saved, but it doesn’t end there. This is a relationship.
We must actually build a relationship with the LORD before we can expect to claim any benefits of said relationship, such as: healing, blessings, freedoms, deliverance, peace, joy, favor, etc. We have to spend time with Him, and allow Him to change us. We have to fight our flesh and build our spirit, so that when we are in need, He will hear us and He will answer us.
Peace. Love. Go Forth and Build A True Relationship.
