Don’t just believe everything that is taught simply because it is the first explanation you hear. Don’t just take people’s word for it, do as the Bereans did, and go and search the Scriptures daily to see if what you are being taught is Scriptural. The Bible promises that the Holy Spirit will guide us and teach us, so, give Him opportunity to do so.

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.” ~ Acts 2:1^KJV

The disciples had been praying earnestly for ten days, and when Pentecost came they were all together, in accord, in one place. They were unified. There was no division between them. And as they waited, the Holy Spirit infilled them. They began speaking in tongues, Peter preached a fiery message, and 3,000 got saved. They were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit.

How many of us can say that their household comes together and prays earnestly? Or comes together and is unified? Or that they come together and wait for the Spirit to come? We pray for miracles, signs, healings, etc. but we don’t do the beginning. We aren’t empowered. Yes, while we are saved, we have the Holy Spirit, but we don’t have the power. The power has to be sought after, waited for, and we have to be in unity to get it.

When we do these things, we will see miracles happening before our very eyes. We will see the healing of the sick, the oppressed finding peace, the depressed finding joy, and the lost being saved. We will be able to preach through the Power of The Holy Spirit and it will quicken the hearts of all who hear the message.

And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’” ~ Matthew 28:17-20

When Jesus appeared to His disciples, He gave them one simple command, Go. He broke that one simple command up into two actions, baptize and teach. Why was this Jesus’ last command to His disciples? Jesus had just died and then resurrected three days later overcoming every sin, bringing healing, peace, and much more to whomever would accept it. That was Jesus’ one mission, save the world. He did His part. He taught, He died, He overcame, He rose again. Now it was time for Him to return to Heaven. The only logical thing for Him to do now, was to pass the mantel to His disciples.
He sent them out to all the nations so that all people may be saved. He told them to baptize and then teach them to observe all the commands. Our first and foremost mission is to get them saved. We can’t try to change who they are before they are saved. They have to first be saved and then they will change.

Our first job should be to show them the love of Jesus. Show them that the only way to have eternal life, is through Jesus. Then we show them how to change. Often times we get caught up in changing them, before getting them saved. But change only comes through salvation. It only comes through the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ. So first lead them to Christ, and then correct them.
As Christians that is our main underlying mission. Save souls. The mantel has been passed to us, are we going to put it down and keep the joy, peace, healing, and eternal life to ourselves? Or are we going to let our light shine bright so that we may lead many to Christ. This is the will of God, that none should perish, but all come to acceptance. What are we doing in order to fulfill the ultimate underlying will of God?

Job’s children were grown. They moved out. They had their own homes and families. Yet Job prayed for them and covered them, just in case they sinned. He never let go of his children. He never said, “They’re grown. They have their own life.” He prayed for them. And when they died, he didn’t feel hopelessness because he had faith that his prayers were making a difference in his children’s lives.

How often do you cover your children? How often do you pray for them? For their salvation? For God’s mercy on them? Every morning we should cover our loved ones with prayers. Especially our children. When we pray, things happen.

When Nehemiah saw this, he was more than upset. Nehemiah wasn’t upset about seeing the next generation lose the culture, but instead, he was upset that they were losing their connection to God. They forgot who they were. In today’s Church, we have the same struggles. Our children know the world. They know each celebrity, every secular song, every secular show, yet they know nothing about God.

They don’t know His characteristics, His Word, His plan. We allow our children to join the world and leave the Church. Why does it matter? Without knowing God, you can’t have a relationship with Him. Without a relationship with Him, you can’t make it into Heaven. Teach your children from a young age, and they won’t forget who they are or who God is.

“One day David asked, ‘Is anyone in Saul’s family still alive—anyone to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?’” ~ 2 Samuel 9:1

Because David and Jonathan had such a close brotherly bond, after he died, David wanted to show kindness to anyone that was still alive in his family. Are we building relationships like this for our future descendants? Or even just our children? Or do we allow ourselves to lose sight of the future and burn bridges? Imagine if Jonathan had taken his father’s side and tried to kill David, would David had helped anyone in his family? Probably not, why? Because he only did that because of his relationship with Jonathan.

If we build lasting relationships, we will be able to help people we care about, even if we’re not here to do it ourselves. Even though it’s easier to think of today, think of tomorrow. You may not need that person now, but what if you do in the future? What if your family does in the future?

They say the strongest thing in the universe is love, and I believe it is true. It was love that sent Jesus to the Cross, and it was love that held the Son of God there, not the nails. Therefore, true love is a verb, not an adjective. Although it can be used to describe a feeling, it must be put into action in order to make that feeling a reality. Love without the right and proper actions is not real love at all. What I mean is, if I truly love my spouse, I will seek ways to please her and to bringing joy and happiness to her, not to myself. She then, in turn, does the same for me. In that way, we learn to depend on each other for our marital happiness, always putting God first in all things. Happy Valentine’s Day everyone.

My Heavenly Father, please bless relationships this Valentine’s Day. And those that have lost sight of the shore bring them back. For those who have forgotten what they started fighting for, open their eyes to see that it is a spiritual fight for their families and for their loved ones. Spark the flame again in marriages, in family relationships, in friendships, and in their relationship with You. And for those relationships that are burning bright, keep fanning the flames that it may become an inferno. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

“¹¹ David and his men tore their clothes in sorrow when they heard the news. ¹² They mourned and wept and fasted all day for Saul and his son Jonathan, and for the Lord’s army and the nation of Israel, because they had died by the sword that day.” ~ 2 Samuel 1:11-12

Saul tried to kill David on multiple occasions, yet David didn’t rejoice in Saul’s death, he mourned. He wept for Saul, the man who caused him to be an outcast, gave his wife to another, and tried to kill. David loved God so much that he was able to love his enemies. How many of us can say that we truly love our enemies?

It’s easy to say that we love someone until they’ve done us wrong. Love is an easy thing to say, but not an easy thing to be. God is love and we are to model our lives after Him, then we must also be love. What does that mean? We must show mercy, especially to those that showed us none. We must show love to those who showed us hate. We have to live as Christ because it’s no longer us who is living, but it is Christ who is living through us. We each have a Saul in our lives, but do we each love our Saul like David did?

Jesus never sinned, overcame the world, started a revolution, healed the sick, raised the dead, and more. What was His secret? Could it have been quiet time? Jesus spent time with His Heavenly Father so that no matter where He was or what form He was in, they remained one.

Jesus was able to overcome any and every temptation (Hebrews 4:15) without making a mistake. Could it be that the more He connected with His Heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit, the less the world drew Him in? Imagine quiet time as putting on glasses that narrow in the focus only on God. That’s what you’re doing in quiet time, you’re removing everything else and placing God as your one and only focus.

He got rid of distractions, so that when He prayed God heard Him. He didn’t have to try to ignore the disciples, crowds, chatter, etc. because He removed every distraction and just had time with His Heavenly Father.
