Oh To Know Him

Many people believe in God. In fact, the majority of people believe in God, but the majority of people who believe in God don’t truly have a relationship with God outside of church on Sunday mornings. The idea is that as long as they go to church and hear the word of God, that’s enough to save them. But is this Biblical? Is there more to salvation than just going to church or knowing the Bible? Join Reverend Kenny Yates as he opens our eyes to the importance of building our relationship with God as well as how to do that effectively in his message, Oh To Know Him.

Oh To Know Him

The Importance of Knowing God

18 Now when all the people saw the thunder and the flashes of lightning and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking, the people were afraid and trembled, and they stood far off 19 and said to Moses, “You speak to us, and we will listen; but do not let God speak to us, lest we die.” 20 Moses said to the people, “Do not fear, for God has come to test you, that the fear of him may be before you, that you may not sin.” 21 The people stood far off, while Moses drew near to the thick darkness where God was.

Exodus 20:18–21

23 Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, 24 but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.”

Jeremiah 9:23–24

Salvation Pt. 4: How Do I Know I Have Salvation?

Many people in the Church take the term salvation for granted. We take the confidence that we have in our salvation in Christ Jesus for granted. If someone were to ask for reassurance on how they know they are saved, would you know how to answer them? Do you know how you know that you have salvation? Join Reverend Kenny Yates as he eases our minds on our confidence in our salvation through Jesus Christ in his video, Salvation Pt. 4: How Do I Know I Have Salvation?

How Do I Know I Have Salvation?

because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing His riches on all who call on Him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Romans 10:9-13

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Ephesians 2:8-9

16 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 17 By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as He is so also are we in this world.

Salvation Pt. 3: How Do I Get Salvation?

Many people in the Church take the term salvation for granted. How many of us would be able to explain what salvation is, why we all need it, as well as how to get/receive it to someone who has never heard? How can we spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth if we don’t fully know how to explain it ourselves? Peter told us to be ready to give a reason for our hope; therefore, wouldn’t why we need salvation and how we obtained it fall under that category? Join Reverend Kenny Yates as he lays out the foundation for our salvation that all Christians should have in his video, Salvation Pt. 3: How Do I Get Salvation?

How Do I Obtain Salvation?

37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to Himself.” 40 And with many other words He bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” 41 So those who received His word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.

Acts 2:37–41

But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

Salvation Pt. 2: Why Do I Need Salvation?

We’ve all heard that we all need salvation, but how many of us can truly say we understand and know why that is? If we were asked by someone who has never heard, would we be able to explain it to them? This should be the foundation that every Christian has, but sadly many of us don’t have this foundation. What If I Haven’t Sinned?

We all have sinned. Either lying, stealing, lusting, gluttony, greed, etc. all of us have sinned to some capacity, this is why we all need salvation.

21 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by His blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in His divine forbearance He had passed over former sins.

Romans 3:21-25

Because we have all sinned, we all deserve death because sin brings spiritual and physical death to those who give in to it.

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 6:23

Even though sin leads to death, Christ has given us the option of salvation in Him because He died for all who would believe.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Escape the Fiery Flames

11 Say to them, As I live, declares the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, ~ Ezekiel 33:11

God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked. He does not want anyone to die and go to the Lake of Fire for all eternity. It is a place where:

The flames are never quenched. The worm does not die. Anguish and pain never cease. Complete and total darkness unlike anything on earth. Thirst and hunger are never satisfied. There’s never-ending suffering and torment—uncontrollable grief and sorrow. There is no peace, no joy, no comfort, nothing but loneliness, pain, and regret.

But you don’t have to go there. God doesn’t want you there, and neither do we. Here is how you can avoid a place like that. Accept Jesus and His free gift of salvation. Maybe you have never heard of Jesus. Or maybe you have never understood what it is that Jesus offers us.

Well, we were all destined to die and go to hell or the Lake of Fire. The only thing that could save us was a pure, unblemished sacrifice. So, Jesus, the Son of God, volunteered to shed His own precious, sinless blood, a sacrifice that was without spot or wrinkle. He chose to take all of the sins of the world on Himself and to die that we might have life.

But on the third day, He rose again and is now seated at the right hand of God the Father, making intercession for us. And one day, He is coming back for us. And that day is very, very soon. To receive His salvation, all you have to do is ask Him. If you are ready to ask Him for forgiveness and to make a commitment to live for Him, pray this prayer with me.

LORD Jesus, please forgive me for all my sins and cleanse me of all unrighteousness. Help me to live my life for You, that I might escape the fiery flames of death and enter into eternal life on that Great Day. Fill me with You Holy Spirit that I might be molded into Your perfect and holy image as Adam was created in Your perfect and holy image. Give me a heart of flesh for my heart of stone that I might desire good and not evil. Be with me now, LORD God. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
