With each passing year, the definition and role of a father become more and more blurred. Fathers are no longer deemed essential. Instead, they are deemed unnecessary and expendable by society. But what does God have to say about fathers? Do children truly need a father in their lives, or is that an outdated notion that no longer holds value in our evolved society? Fathers

¹⁶Then the men set out from there, and they looked down toward Sodom. And Abraham went with them to set them on their way. ¹⁷The Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, ¹⁸seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? ¹⁹For I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Lord may bring to Abraham what he has promised him.” ²⁰Then the Lord said, “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave, ²¹I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry that has come to me. Dad, You Matter

Dad, your role as the father is important; you matter. You cannot be replaced. You have an essential part to play in the raising of your children, never forget that.

¹⁴And I looked and arose and said to the nobles and to the officials and to the rest of the people, “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.”

Dads Represent

Over the last few decades, fathers have become more and more absent from their children’s lives. Many children today don’t have a father figure in their life anymore. In fact, many don’t even have a male presence in their life to help guide them. There’s a rise in gang violence, children and young adults getting arrested, fights, and shootings in schools. Could this be connected to the rise in father absence in our homes today? According to our ever-changing culture, fathers aren’t important to the family, but is this true? Are fathers replaceable? Importance of Fathers

Dads represent our Heavenly Father while we’re here on earth. Fathers lead and teach the household in the ways of righteousness.

¹² Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

The Love of a Father

Fathers are to love their children as the LORD loves us.

Leaving a Godly Inheritance

Don’t be deceived by the world, fathers. Raise your child up in the Word of God. Raise them up to love the LORD their God and His Word, so that they may have Eternal Life.

Fathers

“And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord .” ~Joshua 24:15

Today we honor our fathers. The men in our lives who lead us. Who teach us. Who guide us. The men who protect us from the monsters under our beds and closets. The men who pick us up when we fall off our bikes, or in my case find a way to get 12 feet down off a ledge to rescue me from falling into the water.

Father’s do so much for us. They teach our young boys how to grow into young men. They teach young girls that they are princesses and how they deserve to be treated as a young woman by young men. They teach and guide us when we’re children. My Dad was and is and will always be the best Dad in the world! (I’m not biased or anything, just truthful)

Just as Joshua led his family to follow the LORD, our fathers today need to continue in this example. Dads are the head of the household, but in our day and age, we have turned this into a negative, anti-woman, toxic-masculinity problem. We have tried to destroy the roll of a Dad. When we get rid of the father, you get rid of the head. Without a head, you are running around without knowing where you are going. We have less and less highschool graduates, and more and more alcoholics, drug addicts, womanizers, criminals, etc. Without a Father, the household breaks down.

Fathers, you are not replaceable. You are not unnecessary. You are not useless. You are needed. You are wanted. And we are grateful for all the amazing things you do. Let’s not get rid of Fathers and their roles in our lives, but let us, especially today, honor our Fathers and be thankful for them. For those who grew up without a father or a good father, strive to be the kind of father that you wanted as a child. Be the protector, the rescuer, the leader, the head of the household, and the SUPERHERO.
