Come and See, Then Go and Tell

35 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, 36 and he looked at Jesus as He walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” 37 The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. 38 Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” 39 He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. 40 One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). 42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter). ~ John 1:35-42

If you notice, John said to no one in particular but to everyone. “Look, I know for sure that He is the Lamb of God.” And he pointed his finger at Jesus as He walked by. So, two of John’s disciples, who heard him, began to follow Jesus. After Jesus noticed them following Him, He asked them what they were seeking. So, they asked Him where He was staying, and Jesus replied, “Come and see.” The Scripture then says that one of the two, Andrew, went to tell his brother Simon Peter, and he brought him to Jesus. In other words, he told Peter to come and see for himself. Come and see is a personal experience.

If someone just tells you about an event or an experience, it’s not your experience; it’s theirs. But when you come and see, that experience is yours, and no one can deceive you. No one can place doubts in your mind. No one can con you. It’s your experience, and therefore, it is personal to you. We must make the Gospel personal. That does not mean that we come and see and then keep all of the information to ourselves so that no one else can experience what we have experienced. But rather, we now Go and Tell. We share the Good News of Christ with others. We become the light in this dark world to others.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Come and See, Then Go and Tell.
