Awaken The Power

After that you shall come to Gibeath-elohim, where there is a garrison of the Philistines. And there, as soon as you come to the city, you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with harp, tambourine, flute, and lyre before them, prophesying. Then the Spirit of the Lord will rush upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man. Now when these signs meet you, do what your hand finds to do, for God is with you. ~ 1 Samuel 10:5-7

Before the Day of Pentecost, where tongues of fire rested upon the believers in the Upper Room, the Spirit of the LORD was not dwelling on earth in mankind. In fact, there were times of silence when the Spirit was not in the land at all. But look at what happened when the Spirit of the Lord came upon Saul after he was anointed as king of Israel. The Spirit rushed powerfully upon him, and he began to prophesy. In fact, the Spirit even went a bit farther; Saul was changed into a different person. He became a new creation. Today this should be even more real to us.

Many believe that the power of God no more works through the Church. That the spiritual gifts given to the early Church were somehow only for the early Church. Why would God tell us to earnestly seek the higher gifts if it wasn’t for us? Either all Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that we in the Church may be complete, equipped for every good work, or none of it is. We can’t make an entire section of the Word of God null and void just because it makes us uncomfortable or we don’t understand it. Today when we are saved, we should see an even greater change in us than Saul did, for the Spirit, Himself, abides in us. It didn’t just rush upon us; it is living in us, for we have become the Temple of the Living God. So, when we are saved, we should be filled with the very power of God that not only redeems us but awakens the spiritual gift we have been given that has remained inactive in us, waiting for the power of God to awaken it. Not all will prophesy, but all who are willing and who seek it out will receive the power of the Spirit of God, and their spiritual gift will be awakened with that power.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Awaken The Power.

Travail Like Hannah

But to Hannah he gave a double portion, because he loved her, though the Lord had closed her womb. And her rival used to provoke her grievously to irritate her, because the Lord had closed her womb. 11 And she vowed a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head.” 13 Hannah was speaking in her heart; only her lips moved, and her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli took her to be a drunken woman. 14 And Eli said to her, “How long will you go on being drunk? Put your wine away from you.” ~ 1 Samuel 1:5-6, 11, 13-14 ESV

Isn’t it peculiar that a lot of important people or people used by God came from barren women? Their wombs may have been barren year after year, and people may have mislabeled them as drunk when crying out to God, but God still used them if they were willing to be used by Him. Even though they couldn’t see it in the physical because their barren womb had the potential of bearing/producing children, as long as they sought God with all that was within them, God turned that barren womb into a womb that would house greatness.

For instance, Hannah was barren, but she travailed in prayer before God because she wanted a child. She didn’t allow the antagonizing taunts of her rival to keep her from her heart’s desire. She didn’t allow the misjudgment of the man of God who called her drunk to cause her to give up praying. Hannah believed that her barren womb would one day produce life. That’s how we need to be with our dreams that God has put into us. We need to travail in prayer as Hannah did. Even if people put us down and call us all manner of derogatory names, even if they mislabeled us as drunk or crazy, we cannot give up. We have to fight through the antagonizing world so that our prayers may be heard. The only one who giving up hurts, is the one who has given up. Therefore, we must continue to pray until our time of being barren is over, and we give birth to our dream/promise.

Guard Above All Else

23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. ~ Proverbs 4:23

All that you think. All that you say. All that you do comes from your heart. If that is the case, would you not agree then to guard your heart is the most important thing you can do? You have to make sure you guard your heart. You can’t let any and everything get stored in there. It is not a catch-all drawer or a junk drawer.

That’s why it is so important that you consider what you watch on tv or what you read in books. Or even what you talk about. It all gets stored in your heart, and guess what? The abundance in your heart comes out of your mouth.

You cannot misinterpret Scripture the way you want it to go or what you want it to say, just to suit you and your purpose. You have to properly or correctly decern the Scripture. You cannot come to Jesus on Sunday and then live any old way you want during the week. This is why you have to guard your heart. You have to read, study, and meditate on the Scripture. This is the only way you can truly change.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Guard Above All Else.

Watch What You Think

20 My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. 21 Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; 22 for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body. ~ Proverbs 4: 20-22

King Solomon admonishes his hearers/readers to pay close attention to what he is saying because they are not just mere words. He is not just trying to sound philosophical or wise, but what he is saying is very important.

How important? So important that he advises not to let them out of your sight. You know how folks say, “I’ll keep it on the back burner?” Well, King Solomon is saying do not do that, but rather keep this on the front burner. Keep this in your heart so that it is ever on your mind. Why? They are life to those who find them.

What you focus on will either make or break you. It’s your thoughts that will decide your actions. So, watch what you think about. Guard your mind. Focus your thoughts and time on God and His word so that you may be changed by the renewal of your mind. For what a person thinks, that is who they are.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Watch What You Think.

Ask In His Name

23 In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, He will give it to you. 24 Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. ~ John 16:23–24

Jesus explains to His disciples that in that day. What day was Jesus referring to? The days after His death, burial, and resurrection. In other words, after He had been glorified and ascended into heaven. In that day, they would have access straight to the Father again, just like Adam and Eve had in the beginning. They would not have to go through a high priest because, at His death, the veil in the Temple was torn in two.

Jesus, Himself, promises that if we ask anything in His name, He will do it for us, and He cannot deny His own words, neither can He neglect His own promises. Not only once but several times, He reiterated the promise showing that it was not a slip of the tongue or a mistake in speaking. It was and is His solemn promise.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Ask In His Name.

Go Before The Throne of Grace

23 In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. 24 Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. ~ John 16:23–24

Ordinary men were not allowed to go straight to the Father and ask for anything because they were not allowed to go into that intimate place with the Father. But after Jesus’ death, the veil was torn, and now we have access to the Father and can ask Him, Himself in Jesus’ name, for anything we desire, and He will give it to us.

The key is asking in the Name of Jesus. We no longer need a man, or a high priest, as a go-between for us. We, with unveiled faces, can boldly approach with confidence the Throne of Grace and ask for whatever we desire. So, don’t be afraid to go before the Throne of Grace in confidence.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Go Before The Throne of Grace.

Don’t Let The World Determine

9 Passion for your house has consumed me, and the insults of those who insult you have fallen on me. 10 When I weep and fast, they scoff at me. 11 When I dress in burlap to show sorrow, they make fun of me. 12 I am the favorite topic of town gossip, and all the drunks sing about me. 13 But I keep praying to you, Lord, hoping this time you will show me favor. In your unfailing love, O God, answer my prayer with your sure salvation. ~ Psalms 69:9-13NLT

David was alone. He had no one in his corner; his own brothers turned away from him. Everything he did to try to encourage himself in the LORD and draw closer to God, the people mocked him. He fasted; they mocked him. He humbled himself in burlap; they mocked him. They gossiped and made songs about him, yet his faith in the LORD was not shaken. David was determined to get the LORD’s attention regardless of what the people said or did to him. David’s one goal was to dwell in the favor and love of the LORD.

Today, the Church’s one goal seems to be politically correct. We strive to be friends with the world. We strive to be accepted by the world. When we pray and seek the face of the LORD, and the world mocks us, we stop praying and seeking. When we praise and worship the LORD, and the world mocks us, we stop praising and worshiping. We allow the world to determine how our God is to be worshipped, acknowledged, praised, and prayed to when the LORD has written out for us the perfect guide to having a life pleasing and acceptable to Him.

LORD God, help us to seek out the plans you have for us and not those of the world. Help us to worship, pray, praise, and seek You, regardless of what the world says or does. Help us to only focus on You, oh LORD, instead of focusing on the world and its reactions. Give us strength, oh LORD, to fight the good fight set before us. Be with us always, LORD God, and strengthen our faith that it may not fail. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Declare Them Over Your Life

37 For the word of God will never fail. ~ Luke 1:37NLT

Every promise from the LORD is true and good. God has given us His Word that we might declare His blessings over our lives. When we need healing, remember by His stripes we have been healed. When we need peace, remember that He has given us His peace. When we need hope, remember He is the light of the world, and the darkness has never overcome it. There are verses for every circumstance we go through; we need only declare them over our lives and believe that they are for us.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Declare Them Over Your Life.

Play For Keeps

As soon as the ark of the covenant of the Lord came into the camp, all Israel gave a mighty shout, so that the earth resounded. And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shouting, they said, “What does this great shouting in the camp of the Hebrews mean?” And when they learned that the ark of the Lord had come to the camp, the Philistines were afraid, for they said, “A god has come into the camp.” And they said, “Woe to us! For nothing like this has happened before. Woe to us! Who can deliver us from the power of these mighty gods? These are the gods who struck the Egyptians with every sort of plague in the wilderness. Take courage, and be men, O Philistines, lest you become slaves to the Hebrews as they have been to you; be men and fight.” ~ 1 Samuel 4:5–9

The Israelites were so excited to have the Ark of the Covenant come into their camp because they knew it represented the presence of the LORD, and where the presence of the LORD is, there is victory. But they were only going through a religious phase. They were using it as a lucky charm, but they didn’t have a relationship with Him. God will not let His great name be used as a talisman. He desires to have a relationship with His people.

You cannot side with the kingdom of God, and then when the enemy attacks you with sickness, disease, cancer, poverty, or some kind of pestilence and you cannot now expect to just run out and begin to call upon the name of the LORD as aa incantation expecting the magic to just bust forth like fireworks. It doesn’t work that way. God expects you to foster your relationship with Him.

The enemy will begin to fight even harder, and like the philistines fighting the Israelites, he will overcome you, and you will lose the battle. He does not desire to be obedient to your words, but his wish is to enslave you, and he will if you don’t have the presence of God with you.

You cannot separate who you are, neither in work, nor in play, nor in politics. If God hates it, so should we. It is not a matter of choice or our way. It is God’s way or the highway. So, let us get our priorities straight and begin to serve the one true God, and not man or culture or popularity. The enemy is playing for keeps. So should we.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Play For Keeps.

Love Him With Your Actions

14 Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. ~ Psalms 91:14

Many of us go through spiritual attacks that feel as if there is no deliverance. In fact, many of us go through seasons of drought in our lives that we blame God for when actuality it’s because of our own lack of love for God. So many of us believe that if we say we love God, that’s enough, but according to Jesus Himself we love God with our actions.

God said to the people that they love Him only in speech, but their heart is far from Him. Could this be what has happened to the Church today? We honor God with our lips but our hearts are far from Him? We seek the acceptance of the world instead of God. We support and promote sin, yet we expect God to deliver us from our trials and heal our sickness and disease.

The LORD said He will deliver those who love Him and protect those who know His name. So, this begs the question, do you love Him? Is your lack of love for God the reason for your continued trials, illnesses, troubles, etc.?

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Love Him With Your Actions.
