Prayer is a basic foundation in Christianity. We pray in order to commune with God and get to know Him better, but what if there is more to prayer? Many of us are confused on how to pray, and so we avoid it as much as possible, especially around other people. Why? What’s so special about prayer that makes us nervous or makes us want to avoid it altogether? What does it mean to pray? The Armor of God
What is Prayer?
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, 19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.
The Armor of God is one of the first things we learn about as believers. Your average Christian knows each piece of armor, from the Breastplate of Righteousness to the Sword of the Spirit. The only problem is that many don’t know what these pieces of armor really are, nor do they know how to use them. In fact, many who preach against things such as the Gifts of the Holy Spirit inadvertently also preach against the Sword of the Spirit without ever realizing it. If this is true, then that begs the question, What Exactly is the Sword of the Spirit? And more importantly, how do you use the Sword of the Spirit? The Sword of the Spirit
What is the Sword of the Spirit?
When we talk about the Sword of the Spirit, we’re referring to the last spiritual weapon given to us by God, through Paul, in the book of Ephesians.
17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
Ephesians 6:17-18
How to activate the Sword of the Spirit?
You have to speak in tongues
To activate the Sword of the Spirit, you have to speak in tongues. This is different than the kind of speaking in tongues, which allows those who hear you speak, hear the words in their own language.
5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. 6 And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. 7 And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, 11 both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” 12 And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.”
Acts 2:5-13
This is also different than the kind of speaking in tongues that needs to be interpreted by you or another because it is a word from God.
4 The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. 5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up.
1 Corinthians 14:14-15
This kind of speaking in tongues is a personal tongue that is specific to your spirit. See, in order to activate the Sword of the Spirit, you have to build up your spirit. If you don’t build up your spirit, your spirit will be to weak to pick up the Sword of the Spirit, let alone wield it with all of its power.
14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. 15 What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also.
“And David took these words to heart and was much afraid
of Achish, the king of Gath.” ~ 1 Samuel 21:12
Hearing some words spoken can bring fear into our hearts even though we know we have a promise from God. Fear will take your joy and promise. They will cause distress within your spirit, stealing your peace, sleep, comfort, etc. When we allow fear to have a foothold in our minds, it can overcome us completely.
The battle of fear is won or lost in the battle of the mind. So every morning, put on the FULL Armor of God so that you can protect yourself from the fear that tries grip you through intimidating words. Deceitful eyes. Lying tongues. You are a Child of God, so whom shall you fear?
The Belt of Truth; The Breastplate of Righteousness; The Gospel of Peace; The Shield of Faith; The Helmet of Salvation; The Sword of the Spirit. As Christians, one of the first things we learn is the Armor of God. Paul tells us to put on the Full Armor of God, but do we really understand what the Armor of God is? Do we know why we are to put on the Armor in that order? Was it random that God gave us the Belt of Truth first? Prayers To Put on The Armor of God
The Armor of God is compiled of six different pieces of armor: The Belt of Truth; The Breastplate of Righteousness; The Gospel of Peace; The Shield of Faith; The Helmet of Salvation; The Sword of the Spirit.
A.G.: The Belt of Truth
16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him. 18 Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
John 3:16-18

John 16:13
A.G.: Breastplate of Righteousness
1 My son, keep my words and treasure up my commandments with you; 2 keep my commandments and live; keep my teaching as the apple of your eye; 3 bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.

Psalms 51:10
A.G.: The Shoes of The Gospel of Peace
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. 28 You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
John 14:26-28
33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.

John 4:25
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Ephesians 6:12
12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
