Cleanse Before Partaking

²⁰ But the one who eats meat from the Lord’s fellowship sacrifice while he is unclean, that person must be cut off from his people. ²¹ If someone touches anything unclean, whether human uncleanness, an unclean animal, or any unclean, abhorrent creature, and eats meat from the Lord’s fellowship sacrifice, that person is to be cut off from his people. ~ Leviticus 7:20-21^CSB

Both the author of the book of Hebrews and Paul explained that the Law was a shadow of good things to come. No longer do we give the LORD physical burnt offerings but spiritual burnt offerings. Paul warned that if we take Communion while we are dwelling in sin, then we are opening ourselves up for spiritual attack from the enemy and even could allow the Spirit of Death to take our soul before our time.

We take for granted having the privilege of entering the presence of the LORD, so we remain in our sin. We continue doing whatever we want, refusing to fully submit to the LORD because we don’t think God will punish us for our sin. We think the love of God will overlook sin, but from the very beginning sin cut us off from God. It separated us.

Adam and Eve had to leave the Garden of Eden. Cain and his wife had to leave the presence of the LORD. Those who sinned under the Law were cut off from the entire congregation of Israel. Today is no different. If we would just bow our knees before the LORD, we could see that, yes, Jesus loves us, but He won’t overlook our sin. Think of the price He paid for our sin. Why would He do that if our actions mean absolutely nothing and His love alone can save our soul?

The World Deceiver

¹⁴ And no wonder! For Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. ~ 2 Corinthians 11:14^CSB

I’ve heard many say that the enemy’s greatest weapon is convincing people he doesn’t exist, but I have to disagree. I believe Satan’s biggest weapon is convincing people he isn’t evil but is good. In the Garden of Eden, Satan deceived Eve into thinking he was trying to help liberate her from the constraints around her mind that God had set. Today is no different.

Satan convinces people that what he did in the Garden was an act of love. That he tried to give knowledge to humanity instead of keeping them in the dark like God. People who don’t even believe he’s a real person follow his example and name their religions after him. Some even believe he and God are one.

The enemy doesn’t care if we believe he exists or not; he cares whether we believe his lies or not. This is why he is the Deceiver of The Whole World. He isn’t an angel of any kind. He’s a betrayer of mankind and an accuser of the Church. He isn’t for us but always against us.

Dear LORD, please help me to see the difference between good and evil. Help me to discern right from wrong. Fill me with the Spirit of Discernment that I might be able to see through the deception and lies of the enemy. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Prepare For Future Battles

²² You are to keep all my statutes and all my ordinances, and do them, so that the land where I am bringing you to live will not vomit you out. ²³ You must not follow the statutes of the nations I am driving out before you, for they did all these things, and I abhorred them. ²⁴ And I promised you: You will inherit their land, since I will give it to you to possess, a land flowing with milk and honey. I am the Lord your God who set you apart from the peoples. ~ Leviticus 20:22-24^CSB

When evil rises up, and the righteous cry out against it, God always raises up good to replace the evil. The problem is that once you’ve been raised up to that position, it doesn’t mean temptation ceases. In reality, temptation becomes more and more prevalent. Now, you not only face the temptations of your past but also the temptations of those who came before you that the LORD removed.

The people of Israel had to fight the temptations of the Egyptians of their past and the Canaanites of their future. Israel was to replace the Canaanites in the land because of their great wickedness, but Israel eventually fell prey to the very temptations that caused the Canaanites to be destroyed and removed from the land.

The LORD may be preparing you for a new position, but it’s on you whether you fall or succeed. You are the one who has to build up your spirit man, so that you don’t fall prey to your predecessors. You are the one who has to fight the good fight and finish the race to show yourself approved. The battle is in your hands.

So, what do we do when we see someone fall into temptation, are exposed, and removed? We pray for their redemption and humble ourselves before the LORD, lest we fall prey to the same stumbling block. The LORD will never elevate and use the proud, but instead, only those who humble themselves. Instead of rejoicing in the downfall of those before you, pray for their redemption and pray for your own protection from temptation.

¹²The fourth angel blew his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of their light might be darkened, and a third of the day might be kept from shining, and likewise a third of the night. ¹³Then I looked, and I heard an eagle crying with a loud voice as it flew directly overhead, “Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, at the blasts of the other trumpets that the three angels are about to blow!”

Don’t Sell

²⁹ If a man sells a residence in a walled city, his right of redemption will last until a year has passed after its sale; his right of redemption will last a year. ³⁰ If it is not redeemed by the end of a full year, then the house in the walled city is permanently transferred to its purchaser throughout his generations. It is not to be released on the Jubilee. ³¹ But houses in settlements that have no walls around them are to be classified as open fields. The right to redeem such houses stays in effect, and they are to be released at the Jubilee. ~ Leviticus 25:29-31^CSB

The Church is the redeemed body of Christ. We are the saved, sanctified, and protected of the world. When we are given something from the LORD, it is protected from the enemy unless we have an opened door. We are dwelling inside the wall of Christ.

Those who aren’t saved, redeemed, and following Christ are outside of His love. They are outside of His protection and, therefore, outside of His wall. When they sin, they sin according to their own nature. When they trade what they have for something else, it’s not a big deal because both things are of the world and are temporary. This isn’t so for the Christian.

When we become blood-bought, we are no longer living to ourselves. We now live to Christ. We are now the arms, legs, and entire body of Christ. So, when we give into our sin, we are going against the new nature that we have through the Holy Spirit.

Because of this, it is like we are selling the house God has redeemed for us. We’ve become the seller in the walled city. And unless we quickly repent, we’ll give into more and more sin until it completely consumes us, and we forfeit our salvation. Peter put it this way.

²⁰ For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. ²¹ For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. ²² What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.”

2 Peter 2:20-22

When we receive salvation, we accept God’s gift of grace. Then He sanctifies us by separating us from the open city (the world) and bringing us to the walled city (His Kingdom). If we continue in our sin, we are like those who sell their homes in a walled city. It’s only a matter of time before we forfeit our salvation forever.

Dear LORD, please help me not to become deceived or beguiled by this world and all the temporary trinkets it offers us. Help me to be Kingdom-Minded and not earthly-minded. Open my eyes to the schemes of the enemy so that I might not sell my eternal treasures for temporary treasures. Help me to run the race set before me with endurance and focus so that I might finish the race. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

When Will Gog and Magog Take Place?

⁷ And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison ⁸ and will come out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea. ⁹ And they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and consumed them, ¹⁰ and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
¹¹Then I saw a great white throne and Him who was seated on it. A Better Servant

²³ Are they servants of Christ? (I am out of my mind to talk like this.) I am more. I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. ~ 2 Corinthians 11:23^NIV

The early Church had a vastly different understanding of what it means to follow Christ than the Church today. For instance, Paul boasted about going through tribulations because of the name of Jesus. He said he was more of a servant because of the tribulation he faced for the name of Jesus, but today’s Church argues the complete opposite.

They claim only those who are lukewarm will go through tribulation. They claim that God loves us too much to allow us to go through tribulation because we are the Bride and we’re to be spotless. Here’s the thing, we’re to be spotless from sin, not from bloodshed. In fact, why would only the head be flogged, beaten, and hated, but the body loved and protected from all harm?

To receive persecution from the world because of the name of Jesus is a badge of honor, according to Peter and John. It’s a privilege to be counted as a servant of Christ, so why have we deceived ourselves and others that it is a punishment or God’s wrath?

Dear LORD, please renew my mind so that I might understand and accept Your Truth and not my own. Open my eyes, ears, and heart that I might hear and understand. Strengthen my spirit man, so that I might be able to stand strong in the day of trial. Prepare, oh LORD, for what may come in my lifetime. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Cast Down

³ For although we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh, ⁴ since the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish arguments ⁵ and every proud thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ. ~ 2 Corinthians 10:3-5^CSB

Lately, my biggest battle has been trying to cast down every thought that enters my mind that isn’t of God. I used to think that if you truly lay something down at the feet of Jesus, then you’ll no longer think about it. If you’re truly over it, those thoughts won’t enter your mind, but then I realized that there’s a difference between me dwelling on the past and the enemy shooting darts full of past memories into your mind.

See, it’s when we dwell on the pain and hurt of the past that we hold on to our own burdens instead of giving them to Christ. But when the thought pops into our mind randomly, and we cast it down, that’s no longer our flesh. That’s the enemy trying to force you to pick back up the baggage that we left at the feet of Jesus.

So what do we do? We continue to cast down every thought that isn’t of God. Why? Because we have this promise from the LORD:

⁷ Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

James 4:7^CSB

If we resist the Devil and cast down those tempting thoughts that he throws at us, he must flee, and we will overcome through Christ Jesus. It may not happen overnight, but it will happen if we are faithful to the LORD and submit our hearts, minds, and souls to Him.

So, don’t be discouraged by the attacks of the enemy. Fight until you see victory. Cast down evil thoughts and replace them with good thoughts. Replace pain and hurt with love and forgiveness. Replace anxiety with peace. Overcome evil with good.

Consult God First

¹⁴So the men took some of their provisions, but did not ask counsel from the Lord. ~ Joshua 9:14

The people of Israel had just entered their Promised Land. The Gibeonites heard all about what Joshua and his army were doing to the other cities in the land, and they were afraid. So, they came deceptively and tricked the elders of Israel. They showed them worn-out clothes and shoes, stale bread, and worn-out wineskins and told them they had come from a very distant country.

The elders believed what they heard, confirmed by what they saw, and they made a peace treaty with them. They gave those men their word without input from God. Three days later, they heard that those same men had tricked them and that they were actually their neighbors.

Now that these elders had given them their word, they could not break it because they swore it before God.

The key, or the problem, rather, was that the elders did not consult God about the matter.

Christians today make the same mistake. They make alliances with people they should not make alliances with. They go to places they should not be at. They accept favors from their enemy without even knowing it. Because they make these decisions with their flesh. They sample the wares. They look with their own eyes and listen with their own ears, but they don’t consult the LORD their God.

Spiritual laziness and prayerlessness have become the downfall of today’s Church. The Christian thinks with their flesh, driven by their greed and desire. It is like Jesus said to Peter, “Get thee behind me, Satan, for you do not have the things of God in mind, but the things of man.

So, the next time you have a decision to make, consult God. Before you forge unauthorized relationships, consult God. Before you fall for the biggest lie of the century, consult God.

With Much Fear and Trembling

¹² Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. ~ Philippians 2:12^NLT

I saw a short of a devout Muslim man whose wife had just given birth to their first child. He explained that he was so scared of evil eye and, therefore, losing the child that he didn’t tell anyone, even his mom, that his wife was pregnant. This made me feel so sad. This man is a devout Muslim who prays daily, goes to the mosque, fasts, knows his Quran, but there’s nothing to protect him from evil eye with all that he does. Think about it.

We Christians are promised to be covered by the Blood of the Lamb, a hedge of protection built around us, angels of God concerning us, the prayers of Jesus Himself for us, and the authority of the name of Jesus to cast down and tear down all manner of evil spoken against us, yet we don’t even pray once a day for 10 minutes. This man isn’t even promised eternal life by his god, yet he’s devout to his god. Whereas Christians are promised eternal life and more, but we don’t give God the time of day.

We as Christians get so caught up in the love of God that we forget that there is likewise a wrath of God, which then makes us complacent. This complacency renders its users useless in the art of winning souls and disciplining the nations. True, God is love. True, it’s His love that saves us and keeps us, but never forget that that same love can turn to wrath if trampled upon. Therefore, serve the LORD in the beauty of holiness and work out your salvation with much fear and trembling.

Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me. Please help me never to forget my purpose or to become complacent. Give me the strength and the boldness to be a witness for You. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
