The Truth Will Set You Free

Every year, here in America, we celebrate the 4^th of July. So many people don’t even know what we’re celebrating, yet it’s the very foundation on which America was built. July 4th, 1776, marks the day that we drafted our freedom from the tyranny of Great Britain. Because of this day, many generations have been blessed with freedom. The Truth Will Set You Free

Freedom in Christ Jesus

As Christians, we have been given freedom from the slavery of sin by the redeeming blood of Jesus Christ.

³¹So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, ³²and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” ³³They answered Him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?” ³⁴Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. ³⁵The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. ³⁶So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

John 8:31-36

¹ For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Galatians 5:1

The Need For Salvation

²¹But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— ²²the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: ²³for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, ²⁴and are justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, ²⁵whom God put forward as a propitiation by His blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in His divine forbearance He had passed over former sins. ²⁶It was to show His righteousness at the present time, so that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

Romans 3:21-25

¹⁰For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” ¹¹Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.” ¹²But the law is not of faith, rather “The one who does them shall live by them.” ¹³Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— ¹⁴so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.

Galatians 3:10-14

In other words, without Jesus’ perfect sacrifice, we would be unable to be free from the chains of sin. We would be unable to overcome. We only overcome, because Christ first overcame. We overcome the World through Him. We overcome our sin through Jesus Christ. This is the need for salvation.

How to Use The Truth To Overcome and Be Set Free?

The only way to the know the Truth in order that you might be set free, is to read and study the Word of God.

¹⁷So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Romans 10:17

We must first have the faith, which only comes through the Word of Christ. And the only way to overcome is to have the Word of God in us so that we might use it when we are under spiritual, emotional, and even physical attack.

¹²For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Jesus Is God

The Power of Jesus

It is only through Jesus, the Son of God, that we can be saved. It’s only in Him that there is Salvation for both the Jew and the Gentile. It’s only in His name that we can ask the Father and the Father answers us. It’s all only through Jesus Christ, the Messiah.

Where’s the Power?

The Feast of Shavuot was celebrated from the time of Moses. When the Day of Pentecost (Shavuot) had come in its entirety, the followers of Christ were together in one accord in the Upper Room. When they were in the Upper Room, the Holy Spirit came and filled all in the Upper Room with the Holy Spirit and His power. 2,000 years later, what happened to the power of the Holy Spirit that came down and filled those in the Upper Room? Jesus is The Prince of Peace

⁶For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ⁷Of the increase of His government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over His kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. Promises of God

God promises that He will never leave us nor forsake us. He promises that He will always be with us, and when a storm comes our way, He is our strong tower, for He is the master of all storms.

How to Overcome

The only way we can overcome the obstacles and trials of the world is if we stand on the promises of God. We have to quote the Scriptures to build up our spirits. Here are some encouraging Scriptures to remember and quote.

⁴For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. ⁵Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

During the time of Elisha, there was a Shunammite woman who had no son, and her husband was old, but every time Elisha was in her area, she fed him and even built a room special for him. So, as a thank you, Elisha blessed her with a son. Now, when the child had grown, one day he hurt his head, immediately the father told the servant to carry him to his mother. Why? Because the father knew that mothers had the intuition from God about what to do for their children and how to take care of them. It was because of this that Elisha was able to raise the boy from the dead and give the woman her son back.

The World Hates Jesus Christ

The whole world is currently shouting, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’

¹¹As they heard these things, He proceeded to tell a parable, because He was near to Jerusalem, and because they supposed that the kingdom of God was to appear immediately. ¹²He said therefore, “A nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and then return. ¹³Calling ten of his servants, he gave them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Engage in business until I come.’ ¹⁴But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’

Why is the whole world shouting, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us;’ because they want to remain in evil instead of entering the light. They don’t want to change or turn from their wicked ways.

This is why the world only shouts, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us’ because they desire only evil. They don’t desire the things of God, nor do they desire God Himself. Therefore, we must come out of the world, lest we fall prey to the temptations of the world and we ourselves begin to shout, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’ The price of doing the work of Christ is eternal life, but the cost of ignoring Christ’s free gift of salvation is losing that chance at eternal life.

We Want This Man To Reign Over Us

Even though the world hates Jesus Christ and His teachings, we must love Christ and follow His commands and we will have eternal life. We can’t give into persecution, fear, or the temptations of this world; we must stand strong that we might receive eternal life with Christ Jesus.

¹²But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God, ¹³who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 1:12-13

Commendation or Judgment

The Last Judgment

One day we will all stand before the Great White Throne and receive our just judgment for our actions on this earth. On that day we will either receive glorious commendation or fierce judgment.

¹¹Then I saw a great white throne and Him who was seated on it. From His presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. ¹²And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. ¹³And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. ¹⁴Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. What Leads to Commendation

To receive commendation rather than the fierce judgment of God, we have to do more than just believe that God exists and that Jesus died and rose again. We have to fulfill the will of God.

³¹When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. ³²Before Him will be gathered all the nations, and He will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. ³³And He will place the sheep on His right, but the goats on the left.
³⁴Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. ³⁵For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, ³⁶I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’
³⁷Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? ³⁸And when did we see You a stranger and welcome You, or naked and clothe You? ³⁹And when did we see You sick or in prison and visit You?’ ⁴⁰And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

Gifts of the Spirit

We’ve all been given spiritual gifts. Some will seem impossible or outdated, but nevertheless, they are all from God. Sometimes there’s a price for doing the will of God because of the backlash from others, but there is always a cost for ignoring the call of God with no reward.

⁴Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; ⁵and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; ⁶and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. ⁷To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
⁸For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, ⁹to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, ¹⁰to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
¹¹All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as He wills. ¹²For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. ¹³For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
²⁷Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. ²⁸And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues. ²⁹Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? ³⁰Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? ³¹But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way.

What Leads to Judgment

We’ve all been given gifts. We all have a call on our lives. To not do that call and not grow your God-given gift is to be against the Spirit of God and His gifts. This will lead us into the fierce judgment of God instead of His glorious commendation.

⁴¹Then He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. ⁴²For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, ⁴³I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’
⁴⁴Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ ⁴⁵Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ ⁴⁶And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.
Matthew 25:41-46

When we don’t fulfill the will of God, we quench the Spirit of God. When we quench the Spirit of God we receive His judgment instead of His commendation.

¹⁹Do not quench the Spirit. ²⁰Do not despise prophecies, ²¹but test everything; hold fast what is good. ²²Abstain from every form of evil. ²³Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. ²⁴He who calls you is faithful; He will surely do it.
1 Thessalonians 5:19-24

The Last (The White Throne) Judgment is when the Son of Man will either reward you with His glorious gifts or punish you with His righteous judgment. We still have time to choose between commendation and judgment. We still have a chance to build up treasure in Eternity for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:21).
