Rejoice For The New Covenant

²⁴ for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, ²⁵ but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you. ~ 1 Peter 1:24-25

The LORD promised that one day, He would write His Word on our hearts. When Jesus came, rose, resurrected, ascended, and sent His Holy Spirit, He made this a reality. For when He sent His Holy Spirit to dwell in us, Christ Himself also came to dwell in our hearts as well. And who is Christ? He is the Word of the LORD. That is why the Word of the LORD is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword.

This is why it’s so important that we don’t just read the Word of God but memorize it and apply it to our lives so that it’ll be written on our hearts. This is how Christ dwells in us and through us, by our actions of studying, memorizing, meditating on, and letting His Word change us. This is the new and better covenant that was promised so many years ago. The promise of a covenant that not only changes us but brings us closer to God.

The Many Reasons To Rejoice

²³Be glad, O children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God, for He has given the early rain for your vindication; He has poured down for you abundant rain, the early and the latter rain, as before. ~ Joel 2:23

Countenance is the outward showing of God’s love that is in you and in me, which is expressed on our faces through rejoicing. It is our way of expressing thankfulness to God our Father for His numerous blessings on us. It’s our offering to Him.

Rejoicing is directly related to the harvest. Every feast and every offering. Every harvest time and every sheep shearing time was to be accompanied with gladness and rejoicing. Rejoice! Because the Lord, your God, has made you glad and has blessed you with good things to enjoy. Rejoice and be glad because the LORD your God has dealt wondrously with you. Meaning, He has given you a bountiful blessing to enjoy; now show thanks. So, remove that frown. Get rid of that downcast face. Look up and rejoice because the LORD our God reigns.

Rejoice and Be Glad

Throughout Scripture, we see the LORD tell us to rejoice. Paul implores us to rejoice in the LORD always. If we’re told to rejoice, then what does that mean to rejoice? How do we rejoice in the LORD? Rejoice and Be Glad

Rejoice in the LORD

⁴You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way. ⁵But you shall seek the place that the Lord your God will choose out of all your tribes to put his name and make his habitation there. There you shall go, ⁶and there you shall bring your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the contribution that you present, your vow offerings, your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock. ⁷And there you shall eat before the Lord your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your households, in all that you undertake, in which the Lord your God has blessed you. ~ Deuteronomy 12:4-7

God instructs Israel to rejoice in all situations because rejoicing can be considered an offering to the LORD that is connected to the love of God. God does not want us to walk around with our faces made up and our countenance fallen. He wants us to express and show His love because He is a God of love, and He wants and expects us to abide in His love. You cannot abide in God’s love without rejoicing, for He is a good good Father who gives a million little miracles to each and every one of us. All good things come down from the Father of Lights. Rejoice in the LORD, and He will strengthen you because you no longer lean on yourself but on Him.

Rejoice in Our Great Hope

⁸ We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; ⁹ persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; ~ 2 Corinthians 4:8-9

The world is a way different place today than it was yesterday. Things are changing daily. Our money is being devalued daily, causing prices to skyrocket. Christians are being persecuted around the world. Pastors and Christians are facing possible jail sentences for preaching the word of God that does not line up with the pushed narrative.

Life, in general, is getting harder and harder. It feels like we are being hard-pressed and forced into a corner. Well, I’m here to tell you that you might feel that way, but Jesus will not allow you to be crushed. He said He will never leave us and that He’s given us the hope of Him coming back for us. Therefore, we do not despair.

And the best of all, He will not let our enemies destroy us. They may persecute us. They may throw us in jail. They may confiscate our property. They may even kill us, but God will not let them destroy us. So, rejoice, for we have a great hope in the LORD.

LORD God, help me to rejoice in all situations. Help me to see the good in the bad, the joy in the despair, the light in the darkness. Help me to focus on Your plan for my life and not on the world or the things of the world. Strengthen me in my weakness, oh LORD God, and fill me with Your precious Holy Spirit that I might be able to stand on Your promises and in Your truth. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
