We often hear people say something along the lines of, ‘I love God, I don’t need a book to tell me how to love Him,’ whenever they are confronted with how they live their lives. Others will say, ‘God isn’t a God of love,’ as they paint Him as a dictator. The real question here, in both instances, is ‘What is love?’ or better yet, ‘How do you love God?‘
In today’s world, we have two main versions of God:
These are usually the two versions of God that we either are raised to believe in or discover later on in life. But are either of these two versions the real version of God? Who exactly is God? Is God a dictator? Is God good? Can God be both our judge and our savior? Is God really love?

Summary
God isn’t a malicious dictator just waiting for us to mess up so He can send us to Hell. God is a God of patience, kindness, gentleness, self-control; why? Because God is love. He took your place on the cross so that one day you would have the chance to repent and be saved. You don’t have to repent. You don’t have to accept His offering. He left the decision up to you because He freely and willingly chose you out of love; now He wants you to willingly and freely choose Him back.
Everyone wants to be wise, but does everyone know how to become wise? Is there a special formula for wisdom? How do you become wise? This was such an important question that this is one of the very first things James wrote about.
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
James 1:5
Wisdom is the key to understanding God. It is the foundation of our faith. We have to first believe that God exists, but we have to know the attributes of God in order to have faith in Him. What is the foundation of wisdom? Look at what the wisest man who ever lived said about the foundation of wisdom.

It’s living your life like God is watching every move you make, because He is. To truly have wisdom, one has to do more than talk. They have to lead by example.

Jesus promised that He would give us rest. He gave us this promise over 2,000 years ago, yet we’re still running a race, according to Paul. So when will we have this rest? Paul even goes on to write to Timothy that difficult times are up ahead.

Jesus lives in and through every Christ-Following Christian. As long as there are Christians on this earth, there is light. As long as there is light, there is day. Therefore, we must work while we can. Jesus is coming back soon, and when He does, there will no longer be time for anyone to work. Are we free from the laws of the land?
Though we are free, we are not freed from the laws of the land, nor are we freed from the rights of the land. When Jesus came, He died on the cross to take our punishment for our sin (Romans 5:8 & Romans 4:25). In doing so, He became our perfect and only sacrifice, thereby completing and fulfilling the first covenant, which is the law (Hebrews 9:11-14 & Hebrews 10:1-7 & Matthew 5:17-20). Peter addresses this very subject in his first letter. “13 Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperoras supreme, 14 or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. 15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. 16 Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. 17 Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor” (1 Peter 2:13-17). According to Peter, inspired by the Holy Spirit, we as Christians are to obey the laws of the land and honor those in authority.
This is easy to do until the law of the lands forbids us from fulfilling the laws of God. There is an order to which we are to obey. We obey God above everything. Above laws, culture, and our own desires. Look with me at what Peter said in response to being charged to be silent by the rulers, elders, and scribes of Jerusalem. Acts 4:18-22, “18 So they called them and charged them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.19 But Peter and John answered them, ‘Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, 20 for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.’ 21 And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people, for all were praising God for what had happened. 22 For the man on whom this sign of healing was performed was more than forty years old.” Peter said that they cannot but speak of what they had witnessed, as should be the same with us. We must continue, no matter the repercussions, the ultimate will of God, which is to preach the gospel from one end of the Earth to the other. The disciples and the Early Church were persecuted and martyred by various governments for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Peter then goes on to tell slaves to obey their masters, even if they were unjustly enslaved. Instead, Peter tells them to follow in Jesus’ footsteps, saying, “23 When He was reviled, He did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but continued entrusting Himself to Him who judges justly” (1 Peter 2:23). This is by no means an easy teaching, but what teaching of Truth is easy to accept? Very few, if any. Don’t return injustice done to you with more injustice. An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth will leave the whole world blind and toothless. There was a time for that law, but no longer, for we have been forgiven a debt that we could never pay.
As 1 Peter 2:17 stated, we are to “17 Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.” We are to honor the President, the Senators, the Governors, and all other elected officials. We do this by giving them the respect they have received by being voted into their office and respecting the laws they put into place. This is the importance of voting. Though we are free in Christ Jesus, we are not free from the rights of the land. We don’t have to fulfill these rights though, that’s why they are called rights, they are optional, but our freedom in Christ has nothing to do with it. Those who are not Christians still have that freedom or right to either vote or not to vote, but how can we follow the laws of the land if they are against God’s law? This is the importance of voting. I urge you to listen to what the candidates say, but even more so, to watch what they do and what they have done. Anyone can say they are for you, but unless their actions match their words, they are liars and hypocrites.
May the LORD give each and every one of you the wisdom to vote for the godliest candidate, and the strength to endure any injustice that may come your way. May the LORD Bless you and keep you.

God is our Protector

In the Church today, the Gifts of The Holy Spirit are taught to have been taken away and are no longer for us. The two most preached against gifts are prophecy and speaking in tongues. Many believe that because the Spirit of Prophecy is the Testimony of Jesus, there can no longer be prophecy. So is prophecy still around today? 19 And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

The Gift of Prophecy
4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8 For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as He wills.
1 Corinthians 12:4-11
1 Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. 2 For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit. 3 On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation. 4 The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. 5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up.

Food For Thought
If God poured out His Spirit on all flesh so that our sons and daughters could prophesy, young men could see visions, and old men could see dreams, why would He take away these gifts? Especially the Gift of Prophecy? Paul said this is the greatest gift; in fact, he urged us to seek out this gift above all gifts that the Church might be built up. Why would God take away such powerful gifts, especially if this is the time it was poured out on all flesh and the Holy Spirit is now dwelling among us and in us for the first time in history? If this is the greatest of the Gifts of the Spirit because it builds up the Church, why would God remove that?
