Defeat Your Giants

27 And they told him, “We came to the land to which you sent us. It flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. 28 However, the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. And besides, we saw the descendants of Anak there. 29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the Negeb. The Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the hill country. And the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and along the Jordan.”

30 But Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, “Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.” 31 Then the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are.” 32 So they brought to the people of Israel a bad report of the land that they had spied out, saying, “The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people that we saw in it are of great height. 33 And there we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim), and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them.” ~ Numbers 13:27-33

Fear shows us what we can’t do, not what God can do. Fear shows us the giants in the land, not the victory we have already been given. Fear shrinks us down first in our own eyes, and as we see ourselves, so our enemies see us. We become grasshoppers, instead of mighty warriors of God Almighty. We become defeated before we ever even enter our Promised Land.

The majority of the time, we are like the 10 spies who were blinded by fear, instead of like Caleb and Joshua who overcame fear and saw their potential. They saw their promise, not their current circumstance. They saw themselves as God saw them, as mighty warriors. We have to be like Caleb and Joshua, who refused to allow fear to stop them from entering their Promised Land. They saw the giants in their land, but they knew their God was with them at all times.

God is with us at all times, we don’t have to fear the giants in our land. The obstacles in our path may be large, but our God is larger. Our God is unstoppable. Our God is all powerful. Our God is the King of kings and the LORD of lords. With our God, nothing is impossible.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Defeat Your Giants.

Take Your Promised Land

1Then all the congregation raised a loud cry, and the people wept that night. 2And all the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The whole congregation said to them, ‘Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would that we had died in this wilderness! 3Why is the Lord bringing us into this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become a prey. Would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt?’ 4And they said to one another, ‘Let us choose a leader and go back to Egypt.’

5Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the people of Israel. 6And Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes 7and said to all the congregation of the people of Israel, ‘The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land. 8If the Lord delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land that flows with milk and honey. 9Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their protection is removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.’ 10Then all the congregation said to stone them with stones. But the glory of the Lord appeared at the tent of meeting to all the people of Israel.” ~ Numbers 14:1-10

We look at the people of Israel and say, “How could they grumble against God? How could they be so hateful towards Him? How could they do all of those things? Serves them right that they didn’t get to enter the Promised Land.” But what we don’t realize is that that’s exactly what we are doing today.

We allow fear to turn us against God. We allow fear to control us. We allow fear to say what the truth is, instead of believing what God tells us. We turn away from God and grumble and accuse Him of doing us wrong, instead of taking the time to try to see it through His eyes. But how do we do that?

We have to seek Him. We have to read our Bibles. We have to pray. We have to build a relationship with Him so that we can build faith. So that when the Spirit of Fear tries to jump on us. When he tries to take us over. When he tries to turn us away from God, we will be able to stand strong as Joshua and Caleb did. Are you willing to miss out on your promise because of fear? Are you willing to sacrifice your peace to bow down to fear? We have to stand firm in our faith. We have to trust God Almighty, for if God is for us, who can be against us?

I’m not saying it’s going to be easy. I’m not saying you’re not going to have to face giants. What I’m saying is that God is on your side. He promised that He would fight for us, we need only be still. We only have to have faith. We only have to believe. Fear is a liar. He’s already stolen your peace, don’t let him steal your promise land too.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Take Your Promised Land.

The Power of Fear

10 The Lord said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife shall have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent door behind him. 11Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in years. The way of women had ceased to be with Sarah. 12So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, “After I am worn out, and my lord is old, shall I have pleasure?” 13The Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?’ 14Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.” 15But Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh,” for she was afraid. He said, “No, but you did laugh.” ~ Genesis 18:10-15

When we’re afraid, and we feel cornered, because we know we’re in trouble, we lie. We lie even when we know that there is no way out. Even when we know the person who is correcting us knows the truth. Why do we do this? It’s one of the silliest things we can do as humans. Even now as you’re reading this, some may say “I’ve never done that.” But the truth of the matter is we have all done this especially as a child when our parents found out we did something wrong and we knew that belt was coming. But we do this even after the stage of getting spanked. Honestly, we want to be perfect. We don’t want to accept our wrongs, our mistakes because we want to be seen as a better person than we are. We would rather wear a mask than accept we’ve messed up. We don’t want anyone to know we’ve messed up because we want to be able to continue correcting and giving input on others’ lives.

We think, “Oh if they knew what I’ve done they would never listen to me.” But if for once you just accepted your wrongs and tried to fix them, imagine the change the church would see. Imagine if we all took off our masks, accepted we’ve sinned, and worked towards changing it. Imagine if we helped each other without judgment, without looking down on each other. The church would be so spiritually strong and so united that nothing would be able to shake us. Nothing would be able to push us down because now our foundation has been fixed and we’ve patched every hole. Now we are one church. Now we are one bride awaiting our bridegroom.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Break Down The Power of Fear.

Step Out

19Behold, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have shown me great kindness in saving my life. But I cannot escape to the hills, lest the disaster overtake me and I die. 20Behold, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one. Let me escape there—is it not a little one?—and my life will be saved!” 21He said to him, “Behold, I grant you this favor also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken. 22Escape there quickly, for I can do nothing till you arrive there.” Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

30Now Lot went up out of Zoar and lived in the hills with his two daughters, for he was afraid to live in Zoar. So he lived in a cave with his two daughters. 31And the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to come into us after the manner of all the earth. 32Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve offspring from our father.” 33So they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in and lay with her father. He did not know when she lay down or when she arose.

34The next day, the firstborn said to the younger, “Behold, I lay last night with my father. Let us make him drink wine tonight also. Then you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve offspring from our father.” 35So they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose and lay with him, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. 36Thus both the daughters of Lot became pregnant by their father. 37The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab. He is the father of the Moabites to this day. 38The younger also bore a son and called his name Ben-Ammi. He is the father of the Ammonites to this day. ~ Genesis 19:19-22, 30-38

Lot asked for safety from the angels, and they granted it to him, yet he was still afraid. He was so afraid he took matters into his own hands and didn’t stay in the tiny city where the angels told him he would be safe but instead went into the hills. How many times have we as Christians asked for something from God, whether it be safety, finances, health, etc. and He says, “let it be done as you have asked,” but that not be enough?

I wonder what would happen if we stopped trying to make the limb stronger and instead, just walk out on the limb and trust God will keep his promises. Why is it so hard? We can trust man, we can trust ourselves, but we can’t trust the God that created the Heavens and The Earth. The God that knew you before you were even a thought in your parents’ mind. The God that wrote out an entire plan for your life, including every backup plan necessary in case you make a wrong turn or get lost. Why is it so hard to trust God? In one word, FEAR.

Fear is one of those things that, if you let it, it will consume you. It gets in your head, and you don’t notice it’s there until it’s too late and it’s barricaded itself inside your mind. It set the knob on the door to electrocute you if you try to get to where it stays. It has vicious guard dogs so that you can’t get in. Fear gets on that megaphone and shouts louder than God, “don’t do it you could fail,” “maybe you should go this way just in case.” Fear may have all of those barricades, but it has nothing to defend itself against God. If we would just pray, trust God, and then step out onto to branch onto that limb that doesn’t look like it’ll hold you, then every one of fears defenses begins to break down until it’s just you, him and God. And you say “Daddy, that’s who’s been tormenting me” and God kicks him out. It’s that easy, walk out in faith and you will overcome. Imagine the amount of struggle the Israelites might not have had to go through if Lot had just stepped out onto that limb with faith. Don’t live in fear. Don’t build up more enemies for you and your family to have to fight against because it never just affects you; it affects everyone around you.

Peace. Love. Go forth and Step out.

Do Not Be Afraid

“Say to those with fearful hearts, ‘Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you.’” ~ Isaiah 35:4 NLT

When God is for you who can be against you? Including any virus. If we humble ourselves before Him and ask for His help, He will come to our rescue and save us. He will destroy our enemy, because we are His children and He is our God.

So don’t be afraid of this virus, for God is still God. He will come at the right moment, if we seek Him and pray, to save us.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Do Not Be Afraid.

Wait For The LORD

13 I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! 14 Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” ~ Psalms 27:13-14

Chaos may be upon the Earth right now, but wait upon the LORD and believe that you will see the goodness of the LORD. Fear will try to tell you that God has forgotten you. Fear will try to tell you to panic. It will try to overcome you in every bit of your life, but God is that still whisper in the storm saying “I am God. Peace, be still.” Listen for that whisper and believe in the love God has for you.

During this time of panic, don’t allow fear to control you. God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power and self-control. He has given you His peace. Pray and wait upon Him. When you do, you will see His miracles.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Wait For The LORD.

Fear Rushes God

7 Some of them crossed the Jordan River and escaped into the land of Gad and Gilead. Meanwhile, Saul stayed at Gilgal, and his men were trembling with fear. 8 Saul waited there seven days for Samuel, as Samuel had instructed him earlier, but Samuel still didn’t come. Saul realized that his troops were rapidly slipping away. 9 So he demanded, “Bring me the burnt offering and the peace offerings!” And Saul sacrificed the burnt offering himself. 10 Just as Saul was finishing with the burnt offering, Samuel arrived. Saul went out to meet and welcome him, 11 but Samuel said, “What is this you have done?” Saul replied, “I saw my men scattering from me, and you didn’t arrive when you said you would, and the Philistines are at Micmash ready for battle. So I said, ‘The Philistines are ready to march against us at Gilgal, and I haven’t even asked for the Lord ’s help!’ 12So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering myself before you came.” ~ 1 Samuel 13:7-12 NLT

Saul and his men were afraid. They were terrified that the Philistines would attack them, but he waited for Samuel to come. Saul waits the seven days, but when Samuel still wasn’t there on the seventh day, Saul began to panic. He probably thought Samuel abandoned him and left him to fend for himself, so he moved without him.

When time seemed to be running out and the enemy closing in, Saul gave into fear and lost everything. He lost his entire kingdom to David. See God wanted to establish King Saul, but Saul’s lack of faith and disobedience made it impossible for God to use him.

Don’t believe the lie that fear screams at you. God isn’t too late. He’s always right on time. Have faith and be obedient, so that God may be able to use you and establish your name forever.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Don’t Rush God.

Trust God

Some of them crossed the Jordan River and escaped into the land of Gad and Gilead. Meanwhile, Saul stayed at Gilgal, and his men were trembling with fear. Saul went out to meet and welcome him, 11 but Samuel said, ‘What is this you have done?’” ~ 1 Samuel 16:1-4 NLT

Saul waited for Samuel as instructed until time seemed to be running out. Saul began to panic. His men were afraid. He was afraid. He couldn’t see all that God had done for him and through him. So he moved without God. He didn’t wait for Samuel as commanded, he waited as long as he saw fit to wait. He moved without God, and often times we do the same thing. We see the giants in the land, the enemy moving quickly, your company’s failing, your job’s hanging on by a tight thread, you don’t know how your gonna get through this storm. So we move on our own because we feel like God is late.

Fear grips us by the throat and refuses to let go. But Fear trembles in the presence of the LORD our God. We don’t have to be afraid of all the craziness going on around us. We don’t have to fear the war that we’re in because God is fighting for us. God is with us. We have to learn to listen to faith instead of fear. God will never let you down, He loves you more than you will ever know.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Trust God.

Ask For Confirmation

“One day news came to David that the Philistines were at Keilah stealing grain from the threshing floors. David asked the Lord, ‘Should I go and attack them?’ ‘Yes, go and save Keilah,’ the Lord told him. But David’s men said, ‘We’re afraid even here in Judah. We certainly don’t want to go to Keilah to fight the whole Philistine army!’ So David asked the Lord again, and again the Lord replied, ‘Go down to Keilah, for I will help you conquer the Philistines.’ So David and his men went to Keilah. They slaughtered the Philistines and took all their livestock and rescued the people of Keilah.” ~ 1 Samuel 23:1-5

Even though David just heard from God to go attack the Philistines and save Keilah, David’s men were afraid. They were terrified that them being few in number, would allow the whole Philistine army to obliterate them in battle. So what did David do? He asked God a second time. God didn’t get upset. He didn’t say, “Didn’t I just tell you what to do? What’s wrong with you?” No, He told them to go, and then added more, verse 4, “So David asked the Lord again, and again the Lord replied, ‘Go down to Keilah, for I will help you conquer the Philistines.’”

David’s men couldn’t see how they would be able to defeat such a large army being so small. They had to stories of Joshua and Caleb and the Nephilim, they had the stories of Exodus, they had the stories of Samson, but still fear was able to penetrate their heart. Fear was able to poison them with doubt, so God in His love and compassion reassured them that they wouldn’t be fighting alone. Instead, God would fight through them. God would defeat the Philistines for them.

How amazing is that? God would fight through them, so they had no reason to fear. God doesn’t change, so if He fought for them, He’ll fight for you. He’ll fight through you. When fear comes in with his lies and twisted self-image, ask God for confirmation, and He will remind you exactly who He is.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Ask For Confirmation.

Fear Distorts Your Self-Image

33 And there we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim), and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them.” ~ Numbers 13:13

The Israelites had just come from victory after victory, but when they saw the Nephilim, they allowed fear to take over. Fear will distort your view of yourself. And when you see yourself as small and weak, then that is how others will begin to see you. The Israelites saw how great their opponents were and couldn’t see how great they were. They couldn’t see how blessed they were. They couldn’t see the strength that God gave them. They couldn’t see past the mask that Fear put on them. The Israelites saw themselves as Fear saw them, not as God did. Fear will distort your self-image. Don’t allow yourself to put on Fear’s mask. When that thought comes into your mind, cast it down in the Name of Jesus. Don’t accept anything less than what you deserve. You are a Child of God.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Remove Your Mask.
