5 The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” 6 And the Lord said, “If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you. ~ Luke 17:5
Jesus was teaching on forgiveness when His disciples asked for an increase in faith. Jesus addresses the request by talking about a mustard seed faith. He was saying, “It’s not the amount of faith you have that is important, because just a small amount can do great and unbelievable things.” So it is not the amount of faith per se, but putting that faith into action. Even the smallest of seeds can grow into the largest of trees, but first it has to be planted. No matter how many seeds you have, how big or small they may be, if you don’t plant them, they will never grow. Same with faith, you could have the tiniest amount of faith, but as long as you use it, it will grow, and you will see things happen.
Heavenly Father, please look down today in love, and help us to put the measure of faith we have been given into action. Help us to use what we have now to increase what we will have in the future, in Jesus name, amen.
