[6] My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. ~ Hosea 4:6
My favorite historian and Biblical scholar and apologist is Wes Huff, hands down. No contest. The knowledge this man has stored away in is mind is absolutely unbelievable and the fact that he can explain it all so eloquently is even more impressive. But what I love most about Wes Huff is that he opens the eyes of the spiritually blind who have been led astray by false teachings and beliefs.
I’m currently listening to a podcast with him and Billy Carson (an influential content creator who has led millions away from Christ and the Truth of His Word through deceit and misinformation). As I listen to Billy Carson speak, his arguments sound damning for Christianity. It sounds like we’ve all been led astray by Church Traditions because he’s been studying these things for 25 years. Traveled the world 18 times as he’s studied them. Not to mention his confident, calm demeanor. His claims honestly cannot be refuted by the average Christian, but thankfully Wes, who has dedicated his life to being able to defend the Scriptures and their authenticity, was able to dispute and correct each claim that Billy made.
As I went through the comments, I saw comment after comment from followers of Billy who admitted that they had fallen for his false teachings and were led astray by his deceitful words, until that Podcast. They had walked away from the Truth and clung to a lie because of the lack of knowledge.
Nothing has changed in the last 2700 years. The people of God are still led astray by the lack of knowledge. When we don’t know the Truth, we won’t be able to notice the lie. The Devil doesn’t have to work hard to gently twist one verse here and one verse there. One claim here and one claim there. He doesn’t have to do mental gymnastics to trick the people of God because the people of God still lack knowledge.
We don’t know the basics of where our different translations come from or why there are so many. We don’t know who wrote what, when, where, or why. We don’t know how to defend our faith against claims that books have been taken out of the Bible or that the Bible has been corrupted/changed over the years. We are so easily led astray for the lack of knowledge.
Faith is the only way to we can obtain salvation. We have to have faith, but when we have no knowledge our faith begins to dwindle. It cannot be sustainable on its own. We have to put in the work. We have to study the Truth. Know the Truth. And live the Truth.
Our faith should always be accompanied by and built on the knowledge of the Truth because without knowledge of the Truth you cannot have faith in it.
Peace. Love. Go Forth and Build On Knowledge.
