Recognizing the Enemy Pt. 3: Baal and Asherah

According to the Bible, the ancient Israelites continuously fell prey to the worship of Baal and Asherah (Ashtaroth). They did many abominations in the eyes of the LORD, but have we thousands of years later done the same? Do we know what our enemy looks like? Can we spot them in a crowd? Or are they able to blend in, going unnoticed and unopposed? Baal and Asherah in the Bible

Who is Baal?

Baal in the Bible is a god that blatantly tries to merge himself with Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

¹⁶And in that day, declares the Lord, you will call me ‘My Husband,’ and no longer will you call me ‘My Baal.’ ¹⁷For I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth, and they shall be remembered by name no more.
Hosea 2:16-17

The people of Israel were mixing Yahweh, the one True God, The Great I Am, with the false god, Baal. Going as far as to even call Yahweh, ‘My Baal.’

Who is Asherah?

When the worship of Asherah or Ashtaroth is mentioned in the Bible, it is in connection to the Asherim.

²⁵That night the Lord said to him, ‘Take your father’s bull, and the second bull seven years old, and pull down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the Asherah that is beside it ²⁶and build an altar to the Lord your God on the top of the stronghold here, with stones laid in due order. Then take the second bull and offer it as a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah that you shall cut down.’ ²⁷So Gideon took ten men of his servants and did as the Lord had told him. But because he was too afraid of his family and the men of the town to do it by day, he did it by night.
Judges 6:25-32

They would carve a wooden pole and then proceed to either place in the Temple of Baal, on the rooftops, or near the houses somewhere. Now when it comes to Baal, we see that a pillar or an arch represents Baal. And the interesting thing about this is that Ashtaroth is female, while Baal is male. It would make more sense for Baal to be represented by the pole or pillar and Ashtaroth represented by the arch. Could this tie into the sexual immorality that was a part of the worship of both Baal and Ashtaroth?

How To Be a Good Father

Correct and Lead Your Children in Love

⁴Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Ephesians 6:4

Whether you realize it or not, fathers, you are to discipline, instruct, correct, and lead your children. You are the head of your household, it’s up to you to be the disciplinarian, as our Heavenly Father disciplines us, His children.

Statistics of Fatherless Children

- Fatherless children are 100-200% more likely to have emotional and behavioral problems according to the National Center on Health Statistics
- Fatherless sons are 300% more likely to be incarcerated in state juvenile institutions
- Fatherless daughters are 164% more likely to give birth to an illegitimate child
- 71% of pregnant teens are from fatherless homes
- Fatherless daughters are 92% more likely to fail in their own marriages
- Fatherless men are 35% more likely to experience marital failure
- 90% of all homeless and runaway children are from fatherless homes
- 75% of all adolescent patients in chemical abuse centers are from fatherless homes
- Children from father absent homes make up 63% of youth suicides
- 85% of children who exhibit anti-social behavior disorders are from fatherless homes
- 72% of adolescent murderers grew up in fatherless homes
- Fatherless sons are more than twice as likely to engage in some kind of criminal activity
- Fatherless daughters are 53% more likely to get married in their teenage years
- Fatherless young adults are twice as likely to need psychological help
- More than 70% of all juveniles in state reform institutions come from fatherless homes
- 60 percent of America’s rapists came from fatherless homes
- 70 percent of long-term prison inmates are fatherless

Recognizing The Enemy Pt. 2: Molech

If spirits never die, then Molech (Moloch) is still present in our society. Instead of sacrificing their children on an altar, our society has made it a medical procedure and a woman’s right to choose. Abortion is nothing more than sacrificing your child on the altar to either Molech (Moloch) or Baal, the ‘fetus’ is a living, breathing baby.

¹ The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ²“Say to the people of Israel, Any one of the people of Israel or of the strangers who sojourn in Israel who gives any of his children to Molech shall surely be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones. ³I myself will set my face against that man and will cut him off from among his people, because he has given one of his children to Molech, to make my sanctuary unclean and to profane my holy name. ⁴And if the people of the land do at all close their eyes to that man when he gives one of his children to Molech, and do not put him to death, ⁵then I will set my face against that man and against his clan and will cut them off from among their people, him and all who follow him in whoring after Molech.”

Recognizing The Enemy Pt. 1: Mammon

As Christians, when we talk about our enemy, we think about one being, Satan or the Devil. An invisible being that many Christians no longer even believe in, but instead feel as though he was more of a symbol of evil. But are these two main beliefs true? Is there only one enemy? When the Day of Pentecost Had Fully Come

Acts 2 starts out by stating, “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come,” Here’s the scene, all of Jesus’ followers were together in one accord in the Upper Room. Then suddenly the power of the Holy Spirit rushed over them like a rushing wind. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other tongues. So, the question then is why does this matter? Why does it matter that they were all together? What does this have to do with the Day of Pentecost? Take The Blinders Off

Eli was the judge of those days, yet the Word of the LORD was scarce. He didn’t hear from the LORD often because he allowed unrighteousness to reign free in his own household. Eli’s two sons were wicked, yet he did nothing to correct this. This is how the Church is becoming today. We no longer hear from God the way the early Church did because we allow the unrighteousness to dwell with God. We have to take the blinders off and stand for righteousness.

¹ Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord in the presence of Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no frequent vision. ²At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see, was lying down in his own place. ³The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was.

Passion

We can do as much good work as we want, but unless we have a desire for God it’s not worth anything. We have to have a love for God that burns as hot as fire.

Sometimes it’s easy to overlook the importance of a mother, but remember that God has a special purpose for everyone.

¹⁶Then a wise woman called from the city, “Listen! Listen! Tell Joab, ‘Come here, that I may speak to you.’” ¹⁷And he came near her, and the woman said, “Are you Joab?” He answered, “I am.” Then she said to him, “Listen to the words of your servant.” And he answered, “I am listening.” ¹⁸Then she said, “They used to say in former times, ‘Let them but ask counsel at Abel,’ and so they settled a matter. ¹⁹I am one of those who are peaceable and faithful in Israel. Two Roads

During His earthly ministry, Jesus taught that there are two roads set before each of us. A narrow road and a broad road. One He said leads to Eternal Life, the other He said leads to Eternal Death. In our world today, there seem to be more than just two roads. There seem to be several different journeys that people claim all lead to the same destination, but is this true? Does it matter which journey we take as long as we are aiming for a certain destination? Join Reverend Kenny Yates as he explains both roads and the destinations of each in his message, Two Roads.

Two Roads

In life, we are each given two roads to choose from, a narrow road and a broad road. Each road has a different journey and destination.

¹³Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. ¹⁴For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

According to Jesus, there is only one way to the Father. There is only one way to Eternal Life, and that is through Jesus Christ. Choosing to live outside of the love and will of Jesus will lead you to Eternal Death. So choose the road less traveled by that leads to Christ Jesus.

And They Troubled The City Exceedingly, There’s No Other Plan

We have to trouble the city exceedingly until we see a shift in the natural because of the supernatural. We can’t expect to plant seeds and harvest souls until you move the city until you disturb the spirits that are there. There’s no other plan. There’s no other way. We have to trouble the city exceedingly in order to see a change in our world.

¹⁷She followed Paul and us, crying out, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.” ¹⁸And this she kept doing for many days. Paul, having become [distressed], turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And it came out that very hour.
¹⁹But when her owners saw that their hope of gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers. ²⁰And when they had brought them to the magistrates, they said, “These men are Jews, and they are disturbing our city. ²¹They advocate customs that are not lawful for us as Romans to accept or practice.”

We can’t disturb the city unless we use our words. Life and death lie in the power of the tongue. Saint Francis of Assisi seemed to miss the entire purpose of the Great Commission. Jesus tells us to preach the Gospel and make disciples of all nations. We can’t do this unless we use our words because how can they believe in whom they have never heard of?
