Choose To Be Thankful

“15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” ~ Colossians 3:15-17

When life happens, it’s often hard to be thankful. We forget the blessing of God, and we focus solely on the pain that we are enduring in that moment. In that season. But God’s love and faithfulness have not ceased. Did you noticed that it says, let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts… and be thankful?

Then it goes on to say let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing… with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And finally, everything you do, do it in the name of the LORD Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. So what does all of that mean?

In everything, give thanks. No matter the situation. No matter the hurt or pain. And in doing so, the LORD God will bless you. He will give you peace. He will give you joy. And nothing in Heaven, nor on Earth, can take that away from you.

His Steadfast Love

“1 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. 2 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy,” ~ Psalms 107:1-2

We will be grateful to the LORD for all His blessings, and we will thank Him for His goodness toward us. We will not be intimidated or let others keep us silent, but as the redeemed of the LORD, we will say so. For the LORD is good, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love, and forgiveness. Things may not always be perfect, but we have this to be thankful for our God has redeemed us from the hand of the enemy. He has redeemed us from our past, from our mistakes, from our failures. We have been redeemed.

We praise You Father and give You thanks, probably not as much as we should. But let Your praises persistently be on our tongues and Your thanks perpetually on our lips. Let the words of adoration continuously fill our mouths. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Give Thanks

“18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:18

A verse that can easily be taken out of context and misunderstood. Bad things will happen. That’s life. But bad things happening, isn’t the will of God. “11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 is just one example that God only wants what’s good for you. Then why do bad things happen? Because we live in a world run by sin. God gave us this Earth as our home, but we gave the deed over to the enemy when Adam and Eve ate of the Forbidden Fruit. The Earth is no longer good. The world has corrupted it, so bad things will happen. But God’s will is that no matter what happens, you give thanks.

153,424 people die every day. As someone who recently lost a very close loved one, it would be a lot easier to be mad at God, myself, the world. It would be easier to become bitter and angry, but that’s not God’s will. Give thanks in all circumstances, not because they’re gone, but because of the time you had with them. The impact they made on your life. The love they showed you. The things they taught you. And the legacy they left behind. Be thankful even when it’s difficult.

When you are poor, but at least you have a roof over your head. When you are falsely accused, but still breathing. When you’ve lost everything, but still have your life. Give thanks. But don’t become complacent. Always strive for better, but remember to be thankful for what you have now so that when you have more, you can be thankful for that too.

God Bless America

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!” ~ Psalms 33:12

America was established on the principles of Truth. Our Founding Fathers established that we would be one nation under God. And ever since we have been extremely blessed. We have become one of the great world powers. We’ve defended those who could not defend themselves, and we have come to the aid of our friends. We have been blessed beyond measure, yet just as anyone does, at times we stray away and forget our first love.

But just as the Israelites were given a way to redemption, so are we. Our redemption comes from remembering the beliefs that our nation was built upon. Remembering all of those who have given up their lives for our freedom. And having respect for everyone’s own personal beliefs. Our nation has become divided, intolerant, and blinded. We may not all agree with our President, but us refusing to stand or sing our National Anthem won’t solve any problems we do have. Because now you’re not just going against The President, you’re going against every person who died fighting for your rights, you’re going against America and every American. I believe in Freedom of Speech, no matter what side it comes from. Why? Because the moment you try to take away the Freedom of Speech of the other side, that’s when you take away your own Freedom of Speech.

The President isn’t perfect, by no means. But he is still our President. If you don’t like him, maybe you should try praying for him so that he can become the man that you could be proud of. We should all pray for our leaders, especially on this day as we celebrate Freedom. We should be thankful that we still live in a country that is free. That gives you a trial before you’re deemed guilty. A country that gives chances to all people no matter their race, ethnicity, religion, or nationality. That’s why we call it “The American Dream.” That’s why other nationalities will risk their lives to come to America. We have something great here, let’s not forget to be thankful for it. And more importantly, let’s not forget who blessed us.

Be Thankful For Grace

1 The Lord spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they drew near before the Lord and died, 2 and the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the mercy seat that is on the ark, so that he may not die. For I will appear in the cloud over the mercy seat. 3 But in this way Aaron shall come into the Holy Place: with a bull from the herd for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering. 4 He shall put on the holy linen coat and shall have the linen undergarment on his body, and he shall tie the linen sash around his waist, and wear the linen turban; these are the holy garments. He shall bathe his body in water and then put them on. 5 And he shall take from the congregation of the people of Israel two male goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering.

6 “Aaron shall offer the bull as a sin offering for himself and shall make atonement for himself and for his house. 7 Then he shall take the two goats and set them before the Lord at the entrance of the tent of meeting. 8 And Aaron shall cast lots over the two goats, one lot for the Lord and the other lot for Azazel. 9 And Aaron shall present the goat on which the lot fell for the Lord and use it as a sin offering, 10 but the goat on which the lot fell for Azazel shall be presented alive before the Lord to make atonement over it, that it may be sent away into the wilderness to Azazel.

11 “Aaron shall present the bull as a sin offering for himself, and shall make atonement for himself and for his house. He shall kill the bull as a sin offering for himself. 12 And he shall take a censer full of coals of fire from the altar before the Lord, and two handfuls of sweet incense beaten small, and he shall bring it inside the veil 13 and put the incense on the fire before the Lord, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is over the testimony, so that he does not die. ~ Leviticus 16:1-13

We really take for granted the fact that we can just go before God. We don’t have to fear that we will die because we entered the presence of Almighty God. We don’t even realize how we are taking that for granted. Only the High Priest could go into the Holy of Holies. And it wasn’t even whenever he wanted. And he had to bring a sacrifice. He had to do all of this stuff before he entered the Holy of Holies because that’s where God abided.

Now, we as Christians today can’t even give up certain t.v. shows or music, when God abides in us. Isn’t that insane? We as Christians today are so hung up on grace that we actually abuse it. We take it for granted, and we push it too far. We don’t think about the fact that God is living in us, and yet we are parading around as if He doesn’t even exist. How much longer do you think you’ll be able to get away with that? God tells us that tomorrow is promised to no man. Yes, we have grace, but we don’t have the right to live our lives however we want.

We walk into the presence of God with no respect or reverence. We can’t even show enough respect to go to church with something other than basketball shorts and a t-shirt. We are in a generation of no respect. We have taken grace for granted, instead of taking grace as a precious and sacred gift.

A Mother’s Comfort

“I will comfort you there in Jerusalem as a mother comforts her child.” ~ Isaiah 66:13

When broken and distraught, there is nothing like the comfort of your mother. A mother’s embrace can comfort any broken heart or crushed spirit, so much so that when explaining how God would comfort His people, He compared it to the comfort of a mother. In other words, God was saying that a mother’s embrace is second only to our Heavenly Father. It’s built inside of each and every one of us to run to our mother for comfort. When she isn’t there, we can run to our Heavenly Father, and He will hold us and ease the emptiness that the lack of her presence brings.

So, this Mother’s Day, let us take the time to thank our mothers for always comforting and loving us. For the tears they wipe away, and the hugs and kisses they give. As well as to honor our mothers who have passed on. Happy Mother’s Day and thank you mothers everywhere.

Give Thanks For All You Have

“6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” ~ Philippians 4:6-7

We pray for peace of mind, but do we know how to actually receive the peace that Jesus promised us? Let’s look at these verses one more time. Pray, tell God what you need, then thank Him for all He has done. Did you catch that? We need to thank God first, then we will receive God’s peace. Peace that the world cannot give and peace that world cannot take away.

We’re really good at asking God for help, but are we good at thanking Him for all that He does for us? God isn’t a genie that we just ask for things and He gives it to us. God is a person that is seeking a relationship with us, His Children. So during this pandemic don’t forget to give thanks to God for all that He has done for you and has given you, and He will give you His peace.

Look Forward

“32 And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. And they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, He began to tell them what was to happen to Him, 33 saying, ‘See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn Him to death and deliver Him over to the Gentiles. 34 And they will mock Him and spit on Him, and flog Him and kill Him. And after three days He will rise.’” ~ Mark 10:32-34

Jesus never simply threw the disciples into the deep end without first teaching them to swim. What do I mean? Before anything took place, Jesus always warned them about it. Before He betrayed, before He was crucified, before His resurrection. Jesus always told them what was to come. And likewise, He has done the same with us.

Today on this Good Friday, let’s remember that Jesus foretold His death, but in doing so, He foretold the death of all of our sins. The moment He gave up His spirit, He took our sins with Him to the grave. In doing so He killed our sin, with His body. Let us rejoice for our sin was crucified with Christ. As it became hard for Him to breathe, He looked into the future and saw us. He saw you. He saw me. And He kept going. He could have easily called off His crucifixion at any time. He didn’t have to go through with it. He chose to go through with it. He chose to die so that our sin would die with Him. He chose the agony so that we wouldn’t have to.

So today take the time to say thank you Jesus. Because He didn’t take the easy way out when Satan offered it to Him on the mountain. He picked up His cross and He died so that you may be free today! Thank you Jesus for carrying your cross so that my cross wouldn’t be unbearable! Good Friday is a sobering day, it’s the day we remember Jesus’ death, but it is also the day we remember the death of our sin as we look forward to the resurrection of Jesus and in turn, the resurrection of our eternal lives.

Fathers

“And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord .” ~Joshua 24:15

Today we honor our fathers. The men in our lives who lead us. Who teach us. Who guide us. The men who protect us from the monsters under our beds and closets. The men who pick us up when we fall off our bikes, or in my case find a way to get 12 feet down off a ledge to rescue me from falling into the water.

Father’s do so much for us. They teach our young boys how to grow into young men. They teach young girls that they are princesses and how they deserve to be treated as a young woman by young men. They teach and guide us when we’re children. My Dad was and is and will always be the best Dad in the world! (I’m not biased or anything, just truthful)

Just as Joshua led his family to follow the LORD, our fathers today need to continue in this example. Dads are the head of the household, but in our day and age, we have turned this into a negative, anti-woman, toxic-masculinity problem. We have tried to destroy the roll of a Dad. When we get rid of the father, you get rid of the head. Without a head, you are running around without knowing where you are going. We have less and less highschool graduates, and more and more alcoholics, drug addicts, womanizers, criminals, etc. Without a Father, the household breaks down.

Fathers, you are not replaceable. You are not unnecessary. You are not useless. You are needed. You are wanted. And we are grateful for all the amazing things you do. Let’s not get rid of Fathers and their roles in our lives, but let us, especially today, honor our Fathers and be thankful for them. For those who grew up without a father or a good father, strive to be the kind of father that you wanted as a child. Be the protector, the rescuer, the leader, the head of the household, and the SUPERHERO.

Mother

“20 The man called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.” ~ Genesis 3:20

This one simple verse shows us just how important mothers are. Without mothers, there would be no us. There would be no one. We would be extinct. Mothers give birth to us, feed us, clothe us, hold us, love us, they’re our safe place. Mothers stay up with us when we’re sick and do everything in their power to make us better again. Mothers aren’t going out of style. Mothers can’t be replaced.

Today I urge you to love your mothers. Show them as much love as you can, while you still can. If your mother has passed on, honor her today. If you are a mother, thank you for all that you do! May God Bless you, keep you, make His face to shine down upon you, may He clothe you in wisdom and splendor, may His favor go with you in all your endeavors, and may His Holy Spirit never leave you. May God Bless you and your loved ones this Mother’s Day!
