¹⁴ Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision. ¹⁵ The sun and the moon shall be darkened, And the stars shall withdraw their shining. ¹⁶ The Lord also shall roar out of Zion, And utter His voice from Jerusalem; And the heavens and the earth shall shake: But the Lord will be the hope of His people, And the strength of the children of Israel. ~ Joel 3:14–16

Watchman, sound the alarm. Watchman, blow the trumpet and warn the people. For the day of the LORD is near, even at the door. For many, it will be a day of darkness and fear. A day of terror and dread. A day of distress and misery. No ungodly will escape. No amount of money will buy a pardon. No amount of silver or gold will purchase amnesty for those who have sinned against our God.

For those who have needlessly and willingly shed innocent blood, those who show no mercy, no mercy will be shown to them. For the innocent blood cries out to God for justice. There is a dreadful day of reckoning awaiting those who imprison the innocent and set the guilty free. For those who call evil good and good evil. For those who curse the name of our God and the name of His Son. Against such will His anger flare, and against such will His indignation be poured out.

That day is near. The time has come. The valley of decision is upon you. Decide this day whom you will serve. Decide this day which you will choose, life or death. This is your last opportunity to choose life and live. For our God has promised hope to His people. A day of salvation, peace, and restoration. A bright day. A day of rejoicing and reunion with loved ones who have gone on before us.

A time of night is decreed for us. It’s coming soon with a vengeance. Jesus isn’t talking to the world here. He’s talking to His followers. He said a time of night is coming that He described as “The Great Tribulation.” A time of persecution, death, and unrest for all the people of God. Not just a select part of the world.

God said that we are the watchmen on the wall. Us Christians. We are to announce what time of the day or what time of the night it is. We should discern the times and advise what to do. The thing to do now is to draw close to our God, pay attention, and pray. Make sure our loved ones, and ourselves, are ready to meet their God. Make sure our loved ones, and ourselves, are prepared for any tribulation to come. We have to make sure that no matter what comes our way, we won’t denounce the name of Christ. We have to prepare to make a stand regardless of what may be at stake. We have to choose to stand for Christ.

If we hold our tongue, the silence itself will cry out to God through the watchman. “Watchman, what time of the night?” Then he repeats himself. “Watchman, what time of the night?” This gives some insight as to the direness of the situation. There seems to be a certain level of anxiety and apprehension on the side of the asker.

Today we are living in a time of trepidation—a time of perplexity. Fear is weaponized, and the people cower from it. Panic is on every side. One word, whether it is real or not real, sends the population into a frenzy.

We, the Church, have to be able to discern the times. We have to be able to lead others into the peace of God. There is no time for distraction, there is a war for our souls, and we have to awaken the dry bones. We have to prophesy the Word of the LORD, for He is coming very soon.

The writer of Hebrews tells us that this life is a race. We can’t stop. We can’t turn left or turn right; we must run that straight and narrow path set before us. In a race, we don’t have breaks; we don’t have rests; we have to run with endurance. But the author doesn’t stop there; he goes on to encourage us that whenever we begin to grow weary or tired, to look to Jesus. To look to the Son of God who ran the race before us. The founder and perfecter of our faith who endured suffering and hostility for the sake of all mankind.

When we begin to grow weary, we can look to Jesus. Why? Because in His presence, we are renewed. Don’t be discouraged because though we are persecuted, we are not destroyed. When we are weak, He is strong. Hold on to the mighty hand of the living God.

Paul says his mission was to correct false doctrine. Apparently, there were some who had snuck into the Church with false doctrine. They were all about the money. Gimme, gimme, gimme, and now gimme a little more. But Paul said that they were masquerading as apostles of Christ, but they were really false apostles and deceitful workmen.

And that is how it is today. Evil is delivered to us as a beautiful apple, just like Snow White’s evil stepmother did. She was jealous of Snow White because she wanted to be the fairest in all of the land.

When she asked her magic mirror who was the fairest of them all, the mirror answered Snow White is the fairest of them all. She flew into a rage, and the plotting began.

God has determined that we, mankind, the pinnacle of His creation is the fairest of them all. So much so that He chose to redeem us with His own life, and now all the forces of darkness are plotting against us to take us down, whatever the cost and by all means.

Snow White’s evil stepmother transformed herself into a harmless-looking old lady who only wanted to do good. Evil is always presented as doing good for your good. It’s all about you. So beware!

⁹ Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. ~ Joshua 1:9^KJV

God says, “Be strong and courageous and Do Not Be Afraid!” Why? Because fear is the opposite of faith. Make no mistake; weakness stems from mistrust. You cannot trust someone and fear the results of their decisions. You’ve seen it over and often in the movies. The man holds out his hand to the woman and says, “Do you trust me?” and she will usually say yes and place her hand in his hand. Then they jump from some high building and land safely on the ground or on some floating magic carpet.

Well, that is the same concept. God is holding out His great and mighty hand to us, and He is saying, “Do you trust me?”

If we show fear, we are essentially saying, “No, I do NOT trust you.” A statement that God takes very personally. Because when we say that, we are calling God a liar. An untrustworthy scoundrel.

We are in a spiritual war, a battle for the souls of men. If we show the slightest hint of weakness, the enemy will swoop in and not only eat our lunch but take tomorrow’s lunch money as well. He will strip you of everything you have and leave you broke and naked. And God knows that.

¹ But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. ~ 2 Timothy 3:1

We are in the last days. The Spirit of God has been poured out on all flesh. All can come to Christ no matter their past or their father’s past. All are called to repentance. There is great hope in these last days, but there is also great difficulty. As grace becomes more and more abundant, so does sin.

Look at the world we are living in today. Corruption is taking over. The world is becoming more and more wicked as it fights to stomp out any trace of light. We are running out of time. Here’s a call for the endurance of the saints. Don’t give up hope now. Hold tightly to the faith that you have and build it. Don’t focus on the terrestrial. Don’t focus on everything that’s going wrong in the world. Focus on the eternal. Focus on Jesus. When your focus is on The Storm Calmer, the waves and winds don’t seem so fierce. You walk on water straight to Him.

¹³ And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy. But these have no root; they believe for a while, and in time of testing fall away. ¹⁴ And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature. ~ Luke 8:13-14

Did you catch that? Those who fell on the rock are those who heard the word and believed it. In other words, they heard the Gospel, and they accepted it. They received their free gift of salvation. They are now a part of Jesus’ sheep, but when things get difficult. They’re being teased for their beliefs. Their friends are treating them differently. They’re being persecuted. Troubles have come because of their conversion to Christianity; they fall away. They return to their old ways. They give up their salvation.

Now, for those who fell among the thorns are those who hear, but they give in to the temptations of the world that continue to call at them, so their fruit never matures. What does that mean? That means they hear, they believe, they get saved, but they don’t withstand temptation long enough for the fruit of the Spirit to grow in them. They are never able to produce Good Fruit as Matthew 7 says those who are saved will produce. In both cases, according to Jesus, some people will hear the word of God, become saved, but will turn from those beliefs and give up salvation because of one thing or another.

Tribulations, temptations, grief, and pain will come in life. It’s up to us not to lose faith. It’s up to us to press in when things get difficult. It’s up to us to press into God and build our relationship with Him. Sure, there is nothing that can separate us from the love of Christ. Nothing can remove us from His hands, but we can freely walk away. We can freely choose sin or anger over our relationship with Christ.

“⁷ Woe to the world for temptations to sin! For it is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the one by whom the temptation comes! ⁸ And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire. ⁹ And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire.” ~ Matthew 18:7-9

Jesus didn’t say, ‘you know what, life is hard. There are all these temptations. Pretty girls. Cute guys. You know what, if you give in every now and then, I get it. I got you. Just do your best.’ That’s not how it works. Life is one large test, and you only get one chance. And when the test is over, and it’s time to receive your grade, you only have two options. You either passed or failed. And if you fail the exam, the teacher isn’t going to give you an ‘A’ just because they like you. That’s not just. That’s an unjust teacher.

God is a just teacher. And when we all stand before Him on Judgment Day, He will judge us according to His standards, not our own standards. Because it’s not whether you tried or not, it’s whether you did or did not. Either you did it, or you didn’t do it. It’s as simple as that.

We’re intended to be the Bride of Christ, so then in a sense, we are currently engaged to Christ because we have yet to have the marriage. So, let’s put this into perspective. Imagine you’re engaged to someone, and they cheat on you constantly, and whenever they’re caught, they say, ‘You know I love you. You know you’re my number one. It wasn’t my intention to cheat; I mean, I tried not to. But does that really matter, though? Cause, I mean, I love you. Don’t you love me? Don’t you want me to be happy?’

Do you see how insane that sounds? This is the main problem with the statement ‘I think God just wants me to be happy.’ God wants more for us than to be happy. See, happiness is a relative term. Happiness means something completely different to each person. And sometimes, happiness will lead us to our own death. Why? Because happiness isn’t a trustworthy emotion. In the moment of committing the sin, we are happy, but that soon fades as the shame and guilt kick in. Then we return to our sin, and we’re happy for a short time, then shame and guilt kick in again. It’s an endless cycle that never leads to joy. It only leads to a quick ending, never satisfying false happiness.

Choose the ways of righteousness, and you will be satisfied. When you begin your journey, it won’t be easy. Satisfaction and being filled won’t happen overnight, but as we fight, we will be filled more and more each day. God draws near to those who draw near to Him. Don’t be discouraged. Don’t grow weary of doing good, for the reward that awaits us is greater than anything we could ever think of or even imagine.
