Fear Not

1 When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, “Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” So Aaron said to them, “Take off the rings of gold that are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.”

So all the people took off the rings of gold that were in their ears and brought them to Aaron. And he received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden calf. And they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!” When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the Lord.” And they rose up early the next day and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play. ~ Exodus 32:1-6

There are two kinds of fear that happens in these verses, the first one is fear of the unknown. The people didn’t know what happened to Moses, and they were no longer used to a God they could not see. So fear entered. Fear does that to us today. Is this God called Yahweh really God? Can He really keep you? Can He really be the only God? What if this is all a lie? Maybe He wasn’t the one that took you out of your situation, maybe that was another god. Maybe He is just a lie. Fear puts all of these doubts in your mind because we lack trust.

The lack of trust comes from the lack of faith and understanding. The people desired gods that they could see, just as the Egyptians had gods that they could see. Even though they just watched Yahweh, through Moses, cast 10 plagues on the Egyptians, deliver them out of Egypt, part the Red Sea, rain down Manna in the wilderness, none of that mattered to them. As soon as fear came into their midst and whispered, look Moses is delayed, they gave in and sought after other gods. That’s how we are today, we seek after other gods as soon as God does not show up on our time. As soon as we feel He is delayed, we run to something that we can see at that moment, in that time.

The other kind of fear is the kind Aaron had, fear of the people. I’m sure Aaron had some doubt as well, but his fear didn’t truly kick in until the people came up to him with their fear. Aaron gave in to the fear of the people turning against him, so he did as they asked. He made them a god out of their gold and then proceeded to intertwine their sin and God. Verses 5 and 6 say, “When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation and said, ‘Tomorrow shall be a feast to the Lord.’ And they rose up early the next day and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play” He made the calf, then to make it seem alright in the eyes of God because he knew it was wrong, he had the people have a feast to the LORD. We do this today. We don’t go and have a feast, but we try to make sin as if it is acceptable in the eyes of God. We’re so afraid of people being offended by us, or being mad at us, or turning away from us that we will do whatever it takes to keep them happy. Fear tells us we’ll be alone, we’ll be hated, we’ll be ostracized, so we blend religion and sin so that we don’t have to completely turn our back on God, while still being accepted by the people.

Don’t allow fear to control your lives. Fear is a liar. Always has been and always will be. God may not come when you think He needs to, but He will come at the perfect time, His time. He won’t let you down. He’s never forsaken you, and He never will. Stand up for what is right, you may not be the most popular person, but you won’t be alone. There are others who follow God without making exceptions for the world.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Fear Not.

Find Your Mordecai

10 Then Esther spoke to Hathach and commanded him to go to Mordecai and say, 11 “All the king’s servants and the people of the king’s provinces know that if any man or woman goes to the king inside the inner court without being called, there is but one law—to be put to death, except the one to whom the king holds out the golden scepter so that he may live. But as for me, I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days.”

12 And they told Mordecai what Esther had said. 13 Then Mordecai told them to reply to Esther, “Do not think to yourself that in the king’s palace you will escape any more than all the other Jews. 14 For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” ~ Esther 4:10-14

Fear tried to take hold of Esther. It wasn’t just losing her life in the palace that she had grown accustomed to, it wasn’t just being ostracized, it wasn’t even jail that she feared. It was her life. Her life was on the line, and fear was doing its job, blinding her to the fact that her life was at stake no matter what she chose. This is where good company comes into play, without iron sharpening iron, you only see what fear wants you to see.

Esther was blessed with a good man of God to guide her. Mordecai showed her that her fate would be even worse if she chose not to stand and do what was right. He was the voice of reason in a time of chaos and fear. When all looks lost, you have to find a way to look past fear, for God’s ultimate plan will come to pass, with or without you. “And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Find Your Mordecai.

Open Your Eyes

15 When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” 16 He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. ~ 2 Kings 6:15-17

Sometimes fear overcomes us, blinding us from the truth. Fear covers our eyes so that we can’t see God on our side. When God is on your side, nothing can stand against you. Fear knows that so it weasels its way in and strikes fear through our bodies, blinding our sight so we can’t see the force of heavenly hosts that have come to our rescue. Fear does this to not only knock us down but to keep us down as well. Fear is sometimes our biggest enemy because it separates us from our call and keeps us stuck in a state of unproductivity, so we never move forward.

Though fear is frightening, it isn’t unstoppable. Even when you’re surrounded by the enemy, God is still with you. In the wise words of Michael W. Smith, “It may look like I’m surrounded, but I’m surrounded by You.” You may look surrounded, but for every enemy surrounding you, there are more allies ready to defend you. You just have to turn your eyes from focusing on fear and focus on God. Look to God and pray that He will show you your way out. Pray that He will show you your allies. Fear will make you feel as if you have to fight alone and that God is not there, don’t listen to Fear, you are not alone. God promised He would never leave you or forsake you. So be encouraged, for Fear will never win, unless YOU let him.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Open Your Eyes.

Look Through The Storm

22 Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. 23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24 but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. 25 And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. 26 But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”

28 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” 31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” ~ Matthew 14:22-33

Sometimes things aren’t always what they seem. Jesus was walking out to the disciples, but they didn’t see Jesus, fear overcame them,  and they saw a ghost. That’s how we are sometimes. We expect our salvation, breakthrough, or deliverance to come in a perfect little box tied with a bow that’s on our front porch, but sometimes to get to our salvation, breakthrough, or deliverance, we have to set out on our own and go through a storm. When we think we’re about to sink, that’s when it shows up, but it won’t come shouting, “I’m your salvation.” or “I’m your breakthrough.” or “I’m your deliverance.” It’s going to come walking on the water, but fear will try to manipulate the way you see it. Fear will make you see your end, instead of your new beginning.

You have to listen out for the voice of The LORD, and then walk out to Him. Walk out in faith and boldness. Be confident that Jesus is with you. Be confident that The LORD is for you and not against you. Be strong and courageous. Don’t allow fear to mask your breakthrough. Listen through the storm and Holy Spirit will guide you to your breakthrough. Don’t allow fear to overwhelm you.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Look Through The Storm.

Defeat Your Giants

27 And they told him, “We came to the land to which you sent us. It flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. 28 However, the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. And besides, we saw the descendants of Anak there. 29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the Negeb. The Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the hill country. And the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and along the Jordan.”

30 But Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, “Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.” 31 Then the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are.” 32 So they brought to the people of Israel a bad report of the land that they had spied out, saying, “The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people that we saw in it are of great height. 33 And there we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim), and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them.” ~ Numbers 13:27-33

Fear shows us what we can’t do, not what God can do. Fear shows us the giants in the land, not the victory we have already been given. Fear shrinks us down first in our own eyes, and as we see ourselves, so our enemies see us. We become grasshoppers, instead of mighty warriors of God Almighty. We become defeated before we ever even enter our Promised Land.

The majority of the time, we are like the 10 spies who were blinded by fear, instead of like Caleb and Joshua who overcame fear and saw their potential. They saw their promise, not their current circumstance. They saw themselves as God saw them, as mighty warriors. We have to be like Caleb and Joshua, who refused to allow fear to stop them from entering their Promised Land. They saw the giants in their land, but they knew their God was with them at all times.

God is with us at all times, we don’t have to fear the giants in our land. The obstacles in our path may be large, but our God is larger. Our God is unstoppable. Our God is all powerful. Our God is the King of kings and the LORD of lords. With our God, nothing is impossible.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Defeat Your Giants.

Take Your Promised Land

1Then all the congregation raised a loud cry, and the people wept that night. 2And all the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The whole congregation said to them, ‘Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would that we had died in this wilderness! 3Why is the Lord bringing us into this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become a prey. Would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt?’ 4And they said to one another, ‘Let us choose a leader and go back to Egypt.’

5Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the people of Israel. 6And Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes 7and said to all the congregation of the people of Israel, ‘The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land. 8If the Lord delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land that flows with milk and honey. 9Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their protection is removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.’ 10Then all the congregation said to stone them with stones. But the glory of the Lord appeared at the tent of meeting to all the people of Israel.” ~ Numbers 14:1-10

We look at the people of Israel and say, “How could they grumble against God? How could they be so hateful towards Him? How could they do all of those things? Serves them right that they didn’t get to enter the Promised Land.” But what we don’t realize is that that’s exactly what we are doing today.

We allow fear to turn us against God. We allow fear to control us. We allow fear to say what the truth is, instead of believing what God tells us. We turn away from God and grumble and accuse Him of doing us wrong, instead of taking the time to try to see it through His eyes. But how do we do that?

We have to seek Him. We have to read our Bibles. We have to pray. We have to build a relationship with Him so that we can build faith. So that when the Spirit of Fear tries to jump on us. When he tries to take us over. When he tries to turn us away from God, we will be able to stand strong as Joshua and Caleb did. Are you willing to miss out on your promise because of fear? Are you willing to sacrifice your peace to bow down to fear? We have to stand firm in our faith. We have to trust God Almighty, for if God is for us, who can be against us?

I’m not saying it’s going to be easy. I’m not saying you’re not going to have to face giants. What I’m saying is that God is on your side. He promised that He would fight for us, we need only be still. We only have to have faith. We only have to believe. Fear is a liar. He’s already stolen your peace, don’t let him steal your promise land too.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Take Your Promised Land.

The Power of Fear

10 The Lord said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife shall have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent door behind him. 11Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in years. The way of women had ceased to be with Sarah. 12So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, “After I am worn out, and my lord is old, shall I have pleasure?” 13The Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?’ 14Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.” 15But Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh,” for she was afraid. He said, “No, but you did laugh.” ~ Genesis 18:10-15

When we’re afraid, and we feel cornered, because we know we’re in trouble, we lie. We lie even when we know that there is no way out. Even when we know the person who is correcting us knows the truth. Why do we do this? It’s one of the silliest things we can do as humans. Even now as you’re reading this, some may say “I’ve never done that.” But the truth of the matter is we have all done this especially as a child when our parents found out we did something wrong and we knew that belt was coming. But we do this even after the stage of getting spanked. Honestly, we want to be perfect. We don’t want to accept our wrongs, our mistakes because we want to be seen as a better person than we are. We would rather wear a mask than accept we’ve messed up. We don’t want anyone to know we’ve messed up because we want to be able to continue correcting and giving input on others’ lives.

We think, “Oh if they knew what I’ve done they would never listen to me.” But if for once you just accepted your wrongs and tried to fix them, imagine the change the church would see. Imagine if we all took off our masks, accepted we’ve sinned, and worked towards changing it. Imagine if we helped each other without judgment, without looking down on each other. The church would be so spiritually strong and so united that nothing would be able to shake us. Nothing would be able to push us down because now our foundation has been fixed and we’ve patched every hole. Now we are one church. Now we are one bride awaiting our bridegroom.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Break Down The Power of Fear.

Step Out

19Behold, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have shown me great kindness in saving my life. But I cannot escape to the hills, lest the disaster overtake me and I die. 20Behold, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one. Let me escape there—is it not a little one?—and my life will be saved!” 21He said to him, “Behold, I grant you this favor also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken. 22Escape there quickly, for I can do nothing till you arrive there.” Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

30Now Lot went up out of Zoar and lived in the hills with his two daughters, for he was afraid to live in Zoar. So he lived in a cave with his two daughters. 31And the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to come into us after the manner of all the earth. 32Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve offspring from our father.” 33So they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in and lay with her father. He did not know when she lay down or when she arose.

34The next day, the firstborn said to the younger, “Behold, I lay last night with my father. Let us make him drink wine tonight also. Then you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve offspring from our father.” 35So they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose and lay with him, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. 36Thus both the daughters of Lot became pregnant by their father. 37The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab. He is the father of the Moabites to this day. 38The younger also bore a son and called his name Ben-Ammi. He is the father of the Ammonites to this day. ~ Genesis 19:19-22, 30-38

Lot asked for safety from the angels, and they granted it to him, yet he was still afraid. He was so afraid he took matters into his own hands and didn’t stay in the tiny city where the angels told him he would be safe but instead went into the hills. How many times have we as Christians asked for something from God, whether it be safety, finances, health, etc. and He says, “let it be done as you have asked,” but that not be enough?

I wonder what would happen if we stopped trying to make the limb stronger and instead, just walk out on the limb and trust God will keep his promises. Why is it so hard? We can trust man, we can trust ourselves, but we can’t trust the God that created the Heavens and The Earth. The God that knew you before you were even a thought in your parents’ mind. The God that wrote out an entire plan for your life, including every backup plan necessary in case you make a wrong turn or get lost. Why is it so hard to trust God? In one word, FEAR.

Fear is one of those things that, if you let it, it will consume you. It gets in your head, and you don’t notice it’s there until it’s too late and it’s barricaded itself inside your mind. It set the knob on the door to electrocute you if you try to get to where it stays. It has vicious guard dogs so that you can’t get in. Fear gets on that megaphone and shouts louder than God, “don’t do it you could fail,” “maybe you should go this way just in case.” Fear may have all of those barricades, but it has nothing to defend itself against God. If we would just pray, trust God, and then step out onto to branch onto that limb that doesn’t look like it’ll hold you, then every one of fears defenses begins to break down until it’s just you, him and God. And you say “Daddy, that’s who’s been tormenting me” and God kicks him out. It’s that easy, walk out in faith and you will overcome. Imagine the amount of struggle the Israelites might not have had to go through if Lot had just stepped out onto that limb with faith. Don’t live in fear. Don’t build up more enemies for you and your family to have to fight against because it never just affects you; it affects everyone around you.

Peace. Love. Go forth and Step out.

Do Not Be Afraid

“Say to those with fearful hearts, ‘Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you.’” ~ Isaiah 35:4 NLT

When God is for you who can be against you? Including any virus. If we humble ourselves before Him and ask for His help, He will come to our rescue and save us. He will destroy our enemy, because we are His children and He is our God.

So don’t be afraid of this virus, for God is still God. He will come at the right moment, if we seek Him and pray, to save us.

Continue To Preach

“I am in chains now, still preaching this message as God’s ambassador. So pray that I will keep on speaking boldly for him, as I should.” ~ Ephesians 6:20

Paul was still writing to the Ephesians while in chains. He didn’t grow quiet and discouraged, he fought on still preaching the good news of God because he knew what it was like to be without Jesus. He remembered the emptiness. The spiritual death. The separation. Paul remembered what it was like to be in sin away from God, but do we?

Often times we forget our time before God because we grew up in the Church and we take it for granted. So, when some discomfort comes, we shut up and shut down. We tend to not fight for God the way we should. When we’re told to be silent and put away our Bibles, we do. When we’re told to change our beliefs because they’re outdated, we do. When the world speaks, we listen and obey because we don’t want to offend the world.

Imagine that. Paul was in chains for preaching the Gospel so he continued preaching the Gospel because he knew the importance of it. He knew that the Word of God was and still is life. The world couldn’t turn Paul away or force him to change The Gospel, because Paul never forgot what it was like before Jesus. No matter what the world throws at us, are we prepared to stand up for our God and our faith? Jesus said don’t fear man because he can only kill the body, instead fear God who can destroy both body and soul in Hell. Man can never destroy your soul, so don’t destroy it for him. Don’t give into fear. Stand in faith that God will be there for you and uphold you in times of trouble and sorrow, never forgetting all that He has done for you. Don’t allow fear to have the last word.

Peace. Love. Go Forth and Continue To Preach.
